Just wanted to share this as I got some disspointing news yesterday.

Felt a clunck when I decellerated from 100 kph... Ended up checking it out and Audi said that I need a new trasnmission.

Audi dealership recommened I take it to a transmission specially store nearby and they are doing the rebuilt right now. Going to cost me 4700 installed and a full 1 year warranty on parts and labour.

On top of that Audi said my timing belt is "badly cracked" so I need to change that next week. They are going to do it for 1,100... SUPER expensive week!!

    Car is a 02, Audi A4 1.8T with 120,000 kms...

The extra painfull thing is that I just bought this car (privately) only 1500 kms ago!

    OUCH!

    Re: Painfull day!!

i would take it to an independent shop just as a precaution. preferably a reputable one that specializes in audi/vw.

dealerships are known to rip people off. hence the term "stealership."

Wow, that is some crappy luck. But just think of how nice it will run with the new stuff in it.

I thought it was bad when i bought my old audi for $5400, and the same week i had to get new tires, and new front drive axles to the tune of $1200

Totally agreed... took it to two different shops who all confirmed that there where internal components that where the problem. Burnt metal was in the pan.

the Tranny said that they are replacing a significant amount of the transmission. Tourque converter, clutches, valvue bands...

Audi quoted me 6,000 for a tranny with Install.

    Re: Painfull day!!

So... The saga continues. I made the mistake of having it rebuilt (I did this before I had posted here).

Anyway, picked up the car and the downshift got really bad after driving for 5+ minutes. They replaced all the clutches, seals... Touque Converter and didn't fix anything. However, because they gave me a 1 year warranty any of the transmission work is going to be covered (phew)...

They are suggesting that the tranny solenoids need replacing... Could this actually fix the hard downshift / rough "engage" from Park to drive? Or am I being taken for another ride (all be it a free one!).

    Re: Painfull day!!

ZF's are about 2695+core + torque converter with 2/24K warranty + labor (ouch!).

google around there's alot of places that specialize in ZF tranny rebuilds.

^ Ya... My rebuild cost 4755... Including all Parts and lobourt with 1/20k warranty. Hopefully going to actually fixed today... Looks like it was the solenoids that needed to be replaced (under warranty)!
