Urgent request for help! transmission mount removal

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got the motor mounts done, and now its time for the trans mount. I've got the two nuts off, and the torx bolt partially loosened (and partially stripped). Am I supposed to drop that subframe now? I was hoping jacking it up for the engine mounts would have given me enough room to work.

Yes you have to drop the rear section of the subframe.

Ended up jacking it up at the transmission instead of the engine like I did for the mounts. It's soooo much smoother now.

The hardest part about installing the mounts was chopping the wood...

Gotcha. Yeah. Lifting the engine loads up the rear mount making it difficult to take off. I didn't see that in your post above until now. Sorry.

    Thanks. Here you go

Re: Urgent request for help! transmission mount removal

I'm really surprised at how easy they were to replace. Now that I know the "little stuff", I can see it being done in half the time. Contrary to the engine mount DIY, I didn't have to remove the airbox to get to the top nut on the passenger side mount. I folded the heat shield upward and went at it from the bottom with a short/stubby box end wrench.

These things may look cramped and impossible to work on at first glance, but they really aren't that bad.

Yes, once you've been around the engine a few times you being to realize they are not that difficult.

I don't even hesitate to pull the front end off my car if I have to do any major work. Takes me probably 30-45min including draining the coolant to get the front end off.

Had mine off for the first time earlier this week, surprised the hell out of me. I didn't take the radiator off though, I was after a crack in the bumper (still bulges a bit, previous owner had a parking deficiency).

By far the hardest thing I've done to it so far was prepping/painting the wheels. Aforementioned previous owner chewed all 5 of them up (this chick should have had her license taken away), so I spent 10+ hours scrubbing, sanding, filling, sanding, filling, sanding, sanding, sanding, painting, painting, painting, clear, clear clear, and the worst part, waiting for it to dry while thwarting suicidal attempts from the local insect population to become permanent wheel decorations. They didn't come out perfect by any means, but they look a hell of a lot better than they did.
