    Does a B6 6spd bolt up to a B6 5spd

Well I have a 2002 a4 1.8 quattro 5spd and I wanted to know whether a 6spd transmission from a 2004 1.8 quattro would be a direct swap? Or is there something that would need to be changed out?

Sorta...best model to use the the S4. You need to swap out the transmissions, and the shift box. Some axles are compatible, some are not.

Best bet is to go a taller 5th gear.

Thanks, the reason I was asking is because my 5th gear won't engage and I already took out the tranny and there just happens to be a 6spd near me for sale. If I would only have to switch out the shift box then that doesn't seem too bad.

only 6spd that fits stock rear diff is B7; B5 and B6 WILL need a 4.11 rear diff

however, you can use any B5 5pd and just change the rear torsen housing and axle flanges.
that would probably be much cheaper than any alternative and you may choose the B5 V6 trans with same top gear ratio as B6 6spd.

It is a good alternative, however all the gears are taller. Not just 5th gear.

does that mean that a b7 6-speed would bot straight up?

on another note, if i wanted to go w/ a b5/b6 tranny, is there any advantage to a 4.11 rear diff?

    you only use a 4.11 rear end to match a B5 or B6 6spd, B7 6spd and B5 5spd are both 3.89
