Hello all,
I have an 02 A4 1.8 that was lowered before I bought it. I recently pulled off all the tires to paint my calipers and got a chance to look at what had been done to the suspension. The car has Intrax lowering springs with the stock sport struts. I have read through a lot of the posts about the do's and don'ts of lowering, and the general consensus seems to be that this is a big don't. I have had the car for 2 years, however, and haven't seen any change in ride or handling, so I'm wondering if everything is ok. I'm not sure exactly what distance it has been lowered, but if I had to guess I would say about 1.5" in the front, and 2-2.5" in the rear (the front tires ride just below the edge of the fender, while the rears ride just above the edge)s. This seems like an unconventional way to lower it, but the bottom of the car is level with the ground and the owner before me purchased the car used from a dealer as it is now, so I am inclined to think that is ok. So, my questions are:
-Is it lowered to an appropriate height?
-Should I replace the stock struts?
-Are the Intrax springs considered "good" for my car?
-If I were to upgrade to coilover shocks, do the coilovers replace the springs as well, or are they in addition (I know that the front tires have the springs around the strut, but the back tires have them separate)
This is my first post on these forums, so I apologize in advance if it is a repost.
