Improved mileage after seafoam

Well I seafomed my B6 the other day. A bottle in the gas tank, 1/2 bottle in the crankcase, and 1/2 through the intake manifold. Drove around for 20 mins or so, changed the oil, and went to the pump.

I got 543.0 miles out of this tank. I am pretty impressed, I usually have to fill up at 470 or so. BTW I do 20% city and 80% highway driving and have a relatively light foot.

Just thought I'd share.

543 equates to just about 34mpg with a 16 gallon tank. Its possible, though very unlikely for most.

Someone posted the other day on AW that they routinely get 35mpg. It must be flat as hell with no lights where these guys live, b/c Im lucky to get over 25mpg even with significant highway driving. Thats about 400 miles/tank.

I don't really know. I usually just fill up whenever the display says I have 30 miles left to drive. Last time I filled up @ $4.19 it cost $68.xx

I use Seafoam too and i agree that it helps with MPG (among other things), but DAMN, 550!!!! Thats impressive! The most i could ever get was mid 400s and thats pretty much all highway.... Are you 100% stock? And 100% highway?

I thought the Miles on the middle screen are just an estimate till your tank goes empty? I have a 3.0 and rarely ever get over 300mi per tank (16 gal) but sometimes it says I have 420 miles till empty. We need to see your milage on the trip odometer, but even that won't prove that didn't add gass from full to empty.

Hmmmm....just read up on it and it seems pretty interesting......part into the throttle body.....part in your oil....and part in your gas tank.....if this is right im going to pepboys tomorrow!! how about the trans fluid stuff?

take care in what you say about seafoam, it isn't really meant to be used frequently or on low mileage cars. a lot of reputable people won't use or recommend the stuff. if you keep up on maintenance and oil changes you shouldn't need to use it.

I wouldn't use it if i was under 50K either, however on higher milage cars, every 3rd or 4th oil change is highly recommended. Many reputable people swear by this stuff. Every single mechanic i ever talked to recommends some kind of motor treatment Seafoam or other. Motul makes great motor treatment product too btw.

When you do it through the intake, don't be surprised with the heavy smoke from the exhaust, it's normal. I would suggest an open area with LOTS of ventilation. Don't make a mistake of doing this in your garage or even in front of your house unless you want angry neighbors.

I get 33MPG highway, no problem. And that's with an automatic! If you drive properly your gas mileage will go way up. But most people are either hard on the gas or hard on the brakes.

You must be FWD, those of us with Quattro are luck to avg high 20's. I usually avg 24-25mpg with my 1.8Q w/ the KO4 kit.

When my 03 quattro 5speed was stock 550 miles is about what I got to a tank full about 20% city 80% highway. Now with my K04 and plenty of other mods i get 28-29 Highway and 21-23 city around 420 each tank. Its all in the way you drive.

mine has read as high as 535 miles...

on a road trip from TX to PA i averaged 33.5 miles\gal. with a 6 speed Quattro... that was 100% highway, and cruise control as much as possible, running 5-7mph over posted speed limit. might have done slightly better if i slowed up a bit.

I barely get over 280 a tank. That's 50% suburb-50% highway. I also like to drive fast on a quattro tip 1+ with 19's and big brakes.
