H&R springs on stock sport suspension

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Disclaimers:

    1. I know I should save up and buy coil covers becasue they are adjustable
    2. I know springs on the stock shocks will wear them out quicker

Now, are any of you guys running H&R, or any springs, on the stock sport suspension. I would imagine the sport shocks would handle the stress better, but will the springs wear them out quicker as well. And how long is quick? A year?

Second part to the post; what spring lowers you a little less then the H&R 1.5-2"? Im really looking to go an inch lower and thats it.

    Thanks for the info

The Koni FSD are a good match for the H&R SS kit. Your stock struts will be worn out by ~30k miles.

Re: H&R springs on stock sport suspension

Here is mine on H&R springs with sport suspension. Personally i dont like them. It's way too bouncy for me. The rebound on teh sport suspension isn't fast enough and when you go over bumps it's just too bouncy. I bought the car like this so my shocks COULD be blown already. So i dont know. I'm getting coilovers anyways.

As far as how long will the shocks lasts.....there isn't really a definiate answer for this: some have driven on stock shocks for 30-40K and some for a coupld and then finally blow. I guess it all depends on your driving style and the quality of roads where you are. Hope this helps. If you got any questions feel free to ask.

no....the sport suspension is setup'd for the lower sport springs...so i think on regular (non s-line suspension) the car will be slightly higher

Re: H&R springs on stock sport suspension

So what Im hearing is basically that even with the sport suspension, adding the springs is a bad idea. Time-wise, I was just trying to get an idea of if it took 5K or 30K to wear them out, but obviously there are multiple variables that go into that equation.

What about going with the Eibach springs that only lower it about 1.1"? Would that be a better idea and be a better, non-stressing fit for the sport suspension?

I've been curious about this as well, kevin2.0, what kind of setup do you have (sport or stock) and how many miles did your shocks have before you put the springs on? Also, how would you describe the ride? Bouncy or not that noticeable? Do you drive aggresively a good percentage of the time or not really?

does anyone know if there are rubber pads inside so i can take off for the shocks to go lower because im going to slam it i dont care much about the shocks, its a lease car and i have warranty (allready asked friend at service for audi if it gets void with aftermarket springs and he said dont worry about it). I personally want my front tires to be tucked in im going to drop it on stock 17's, with hnr sportsprings.

Re: H&R springs on stock sport suspension

You're gonna have to pay 300~400 to have the springs done, so why not buy new/updated shocks to put in with the H&R springs. Otherwise, you're going to pay for the same install twice.

In my instance, I swapped from non sport > sport b/c I wanted to keep OEM parts, and I was only looking for a slight drop.

You better get that shit in writing! Aftermarket springs WILL VOID YOUR WARRANY on the suspension. The service guy may say he doesn't care now, but when you take the car back and they look it over and see that the shocks are shot to hell b/c you put on some shitty after market springs they're going to charge you for the shocks. Which cost about ~$200 a piece w/out the springs.

I heard the same thing from a sales man at my local dealership, and its not where I bought the car.

As for after market shocks along with the springs, are you guys just buying full kits?

Re: H&R springs on stock sport suspension

i had the H&R sport springs on my B6 with non sport suspension for almost 25k and had no problems. Now i have the same springs on my B7 which has the sport suspension shocks and no problems with these either. In fact i love the ride. Yes i do beleive that the shock will wear out faster by lowering the car but until it wears out i dont see it as being wortht he money to replace.

Re: H&R springs on stock sport suspension

So I just got off the phone with a very helpful guy from Tirerack. He told me that if I was going with H&R springs on the standard OEM suspension, then he would absolutely recomend getting new shocks.

However, since Im on the stock sport suspension and going with the Eibach springs instead, he said I shouldn't have a problem at all. Now I also got the same answer from the people at Eibach as well. According to Eibach, the Pro-Kit springs will only lower me about 0.75"-1", which is exactly what I wanted anyway. Gap shoudl be perfect for for 18" RS4 reps.
