how long did you whine before turbo failure?

i was out in the country, enjoying an evening drive, and did a 3rd gear pull from 2400 to 6000 a couple times, and into 4th once. drove her hard for about 10 minutes. went over to my buddies house, let her cool down for about 8 minutes. a couple hours later, i left and was accelerating, and now for the first time i can officially say i hear a shittyturbo noise. it was not there earlier. it's definitely noticable, especially on spool down between shifts. it's not a full blown police siren yet, but im not going to beat on the turbs until i get a firm stage III bank account level.

so i know it varies with car, but how long has everyone lasted with some turbo lady? someone on here said they've had it for a while, like 5kmiles, but its still running strong.

i hope so too. i wanted to take it up to my cottage for the 4th of july and have my FMIC installed by then,but if it decides to crap on me those plans would get scrapped.

apparently the egt is being shipped right now.

hopefully you can get that far, just warm her up, cool her down, and dont beat her with gratuitious throttle like i do haha. i try to keep it pretty conservative, but sometimes it's gotta be unleashed

mine screamed from 52k miles to 93k miles haha,just put it into stock mode (if youre chipped) and dont do any "beat down sundays" haha

i only have the 93 mode, so shes staying that way lol. i really hope that i can get a good 2k more miles out of them. that will get me through the summer.

i was convinced mine were blown, no smoke out the rear just wierd loud screaming noises. Found out it was a boost leak(F-hose), i still have another one some where. i have a boost deviation code. still going ,i don't think they'll last long.

haha i can relate to that. same thing happened to me when i bought my old passat 1.8t. except it blew almost immediately after i bought the damn thing.

sound, definately /\. do you have aftermarket exhaust that is clamped and not welded? Had a similar, awfull noise a few months after getting my car and come to find out the test pipe had shifted because the clamp wasnt tight.....

So what happens after the turbos are blown? New turbos or can you get them fixed? What if your turbo is not yet blown, is there a service kit out there that you can put on and get another life out of them, I am new to it, so please be nice and help me out. My car has 130,000 miles and still on original turbos, and they have not yet making a unnormal sound. I do not want to go to stg 3, this car is my DD for winter too, so does anyone know where i can get new k03s... thanks

Buying new K03s is like paying full retail for a Beta player.

You could always do what I did and buy that Beta from a garage sale at dirt prices by picking up some used lower mileage k03s. If you still want them new. Dealer is a sure thing.

yeah i know.. i was at work and heard the tornado sirens, looked outside, and FUCKKKK!!! HAIL! it hailed for 2 minutes pretty hard, quarter size hail with little spikes. luckily hail has to be pretty big (golf ball, solid) to do damage. because of the spiking it indicated high winds aloft, and therefore slowed the hail down and made it not as heavy, thus equaling no damage. got it in the garage now though.

anyways ill try to get a video up. right now, i can hear it mainly on spool down in between shifts or letting off. during DD driving i try to stay only in vacuum, so maybe taht will help out.
it's not my exhaust or f hose (2001.5). i've had an exhaust leak, a little bigger than a pinhead the entire time ive had test pipes, and no squeals.
The reason i made a thread and am 99 percent sure its my turbos is because i ran them hard for 10-12 minutes after running them long earlier in the day.

why would you not go stage III? it doesnt make ANY sense at all (sorry s vier lol :)) k04s from a reliable tuner are only about 500 dollars more expensive than k03s from the stealership. k03s= shit reliablity used/ waste of money. k04s new= awesome reliability, performance gain in every area. i've heard that gas milage is increased if you're a sensible driver and stay out of boost. DO NOT waste your money on k03s especially if youre not doing the work yourself. you'll be wasting over 1000 in labor otherwise when it needs to be done again. /rant

Welcome Chinaren! When I first bought my S4 I told myself I would be happy with it stock, then I started logging on Audizine and all these guys upgrading and tempting me with faster and stronger cars has really made me want more and more. Right now I just have a chip with stock turbo's. I am pretty satisfied with that, although a nice exhaust would be nice oh and new upgraded side mount intercoolers. Arggggg I mean I am happy with what I have. Just have to keep telling myself that. Anyway I'm not going to go crazy with the upgrades, but if the turbo's go I want to go with the K04's.

I will have to say yes you can get new stock k03's. Not sure where or how much, I havnt had a need to look for them. I dont think there is any problem with finding new stock k03's, but I agree with a lot of people who say to go with the k04's if your turbo's go. Many people feel they are more reliable and obviously more power.

i just got a quote from my indy mech, clutch and turbo for $995 + parts, i'm sure if you shop around you can find something decent in your area.

I wish i had all the tools to do it myself, oh yeah, and the know how.
