x2 on hot water. if it's everywhere try soaking it with some turtle wax bug and tar remover... then go to the hot water method.

if it's hard and dried on you might try a clay bar...

    Re: tree sap?

Yea if your car just got tree sap on it, it will usually come out with some soap and water within the first 24hrs... if it dried up a claybar will definitely do the trick.

take some WD-40 and spray it on a rag and press it against the tree sap for 30 seconds and it'll basically melt! then use a little polish to shine it back up!

+1 - Best way to get rid of it, I've used it for that all the time. And it's safe for paint. Just make sure you give it a good wax after and next time the sap will come off easier anyway.

+1 Costs a $1 or less and will work like a champ. Make sure it is "Isopropyl" and just apply some to a rag and then pour a drop on the sap, let it soak for about 30 seconds and wipe it off. It worked wonders on my car, which had about 10 spots that were baked on for a few days.

    Re: tree sap?

My entire driveway is covered by a huge tree that drips sap all over my cars every summer. I spray it off with hot medium pressure water (local car wash) every couple days, a proper wash once a week, and clay bar/wax it every two or three weeks.

I like trees and all, but that thing pisses me the hell off.
