Of F'd up built motors!

Getting the car towed to my shop in the morning, of course had to come home tonight (1hr away) and not stay in town. Have got a horrible knocking noise in cyl # 3 or 4 (sounds like loose parts inside the combustion chamber). Not sure if I whacked a valve or what, guess we will find out tomorrow when I tear it apart

Im not sure what it is, really didnt care much to check it out tonight, I just know its F'd up. The bottom end is still 100%, fluids are 100%, still runs as normal, holds idle perfectly, revs, etc. Noise is consistant at idle/rev so really not sure, just makes some odd noises. Talked to Greg on the phone about it, he is sure its an exhaust leak/blown gasket at the manifold or turbo, he said it sounded just like it on the phone. Definitely sounds more motor oriented though in person. Ill do a compression test and use a scope to check out the internals in the morning after I get it to the shop, really just guessing right now as its completely odd to me that it runs fine, just makes these noises. We will see, no biggie. One of the perks of owning your own shop

not at all... these blocks themselves can support over 1000whp, and thats with 83mm bores (bore spacing is 87mm)... the heads can flow very well when worked over and with just springs can rev to 8500+...

exactly what i did, saw the damage with the scope then did the comp test, that was enough to tell me my head needed to come off and ill go from there

and mine ran fine with an obliterated plug and a low compression condition due to something...

well why go bigger than a 28 series without a built motor, its not like you can actually use the 3071r to its potential.

Power levels that people have on this forum are a JOKE compared to what others are doing with the 1.8T in Volkswagons or the B5 A4. Our block can handle plenty more power, nobody here is even at 400whp and maybe only one is actually close while others have done nearly double that elsewhere.

although it does boggle my mind how some VW guys can run 35r's on stock motors with no problems... and i blew my shit up on a GTRS. not saying i disagree.. just saying that its not true in all scenarios

well he isnt running 300whp or more everyday, those numbers are produced on race gas. On 91 he would be more in the 250-260 range for daily driving.

I dont have a stock bottom end ... Pretty sure a stock bottom wouldnt hold the 27psi on pump Ive been running forever
