So its gonna be a hot summer...

Do you have any tricks to keep your interiors a little cool when parked?

Do you do anything to keep the motor cool while driving?

I'm contemplating one of those windshield visors to protect the dash from fading or cracking...I also have my windows tinted. What preventive measures have you taken to stay cool in the summer?

To be honest, tinting your windows doesn't do anything to keep your car cooler in the summer. The only thing that it does is stop the light from getting in, otherwise the UV rays and stuff like that can still get in.

Ummm, wrong. Most tint companies design their tint to reflect UV rays. Tint does help reduce heat in the summer.

Keep your sunroof on tilt when the car is parked, to let interior heat escape.

The chick in your avatar is so hot, its hard to disagree with you!

What I know is that in Florida, they charge significantly less to have your windows tinted because there is such a demand for it down there, due to the high temperatures.

I bet that if you take 2 cars, one with tint, and one factory, and you park them in the sun all day and you go to enter them they will feel just about exactly the same temperature wise. When it's that hot outside anyway, the difference that tint is going to make is going to be negligible as to what you can feel. Sure on paper there might be a difference, but when you crack open your car door on a hot day your body doesn't care, it just says HOT either way! lol

Re: So its gonna be a hot summer...

Tint does help in a couple of ways. It does block UV rays, so it protects the leather, dash, or whatever from sun damage. It also keeps the cool in longer, for example if you were to put 2 cars that are the same temp (cooler than ambient temperature) it will take longer for the car with the tint to heat up. If you park both cars in a hot parking lot all day however, they'll probably be the same temp inside. Tint also keeps you cooler when driving in that it reflects/absorbs some of the UV rays and radiant energy so you're not in direct sunlight.

While the ambient temperature might not be effected the surfaces inside your car will be much more bearable. Hot leather on bare skin is not comfortable for me so I have sun shades for all my cars. Every dealer has these available in the parts dept, usually around $35 and there sized according to your vehicle. I hate the "one size fits all" ones you can get at auto stores, their cheaply made and obviously do not fit your car. Get your fitted sun shade at the dealer, crack your sunroof and you'll be a happy camper.

I have to say that I also disagree with you man. I've had a few cars that were tinted and I could tell a difference how they stayed cooler with the tint even in the sun. Granted it still gets hot in there, but could tell a difference between my car and my wifes car that didnt have tint. (No her car didnt have leather)

Anyway, I have the black leather in my car and I have to say that even when its really hot out and in the sun, I havnt had much problem of the seats being unbearable to sit on even in shorts. (My current Audi doesnt have any tint except for what the factory has the windows at)

To me the real thing we should be worried about is keeping the engine and turbo's cool as can be, thats whats more important

This Tech article on audiworld is in my book a must do:
    http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng.html

    Under heading:
    Low temp Thermo-Switch for S4 (B5) After-Run System

It replaces the low temp thermo switch so it kicks in at lower temps instead of it waiting to be umbearably hot.

One other thing I might do is take off all the plastic covers that make's the engine pretty. To me I dont care and I figure its something else that holds heat in... Maybe its not a big deal for these to stay on or also maybe taking them off it wont make that big of difference, but I figure it has got to help in some way.

I'd also check to make sure your afterrun pump works. I need to do this on my audi.

i have the cooler afterrun switch from ECS. did it with stage 3. it goes on ALL the time. which is good! spins the fans for about 10-15 mins after shutdown depending on how hot it got in there

It's hard to find shade by work. I have tint and also use a sun shade to help protect my ride from the sun. I may go to the Audi dealership and get a custom shade that fits right since the one I'm using right now doesn't fit exactly right. It works but it could fit better. I also crack the sunroof open to let the heat out.

Get some cheapo windshield visors. They really do work. The car WILL be cooler when you get back in. The only pita is putting them in every time you park it.

The afterrun pump is AWESOME. In cool weather it proves to be extremely proficient in lowering temps just by circulating the coolant and fanning a bit. It is such a cheap part, and quite easy to install, everyone should do it.

I've also read up a bit on intercooler misters. Seems to lower temps by about 20% with just water. Just don't spray it when its freezing out, lol.

just got them for 30 shipped from Autohaus AZ. By the sounds of thing this is a worthwhile upgrade to sit in the car and keep it cool. If nothing else it avoids you having to sit in the car after a spirited drive if you don't have a turbo timer.

Just buy a car cover. It'll take you literally one minute to put it on or take it off. You'll be amazed at how much cooler it is when you get in. And if you're worried about it being a hassle if you're just running simple errands, then realize that your car won't be parked long enough to retain that much heat. If it gives you peace of mind, crack your windows.

    So we have:

    Car Cover
    Windshield Visor
    Auto down with remote
    Crack windows/sunroof
    Tint

I think I'll go for the visor and cracking windows/sunroof while parking in normal parking lots, and use the car cover at night.

That reminds me, I need to recharge my AC.
