    Need Help...Mode Button

Read the manual for 25 minutes and tried searching but I've come up with nothing.

My mode button on the steering wheel doesn't switch between radio/cd/etc, it just says insert phone on the guage display. I've got a bluetooth phone, but don't want it hooked up. The saleslady tried hooking it up when she delivered the car, but it didn't work (which is good, because I don't want it hooked up anyway), but now pressing the mode button just says insert phone. I've gone in the phone setup and cleared the settings, but I still get the same result.

Anyone know how I can get it to work properly?

    Re: Need Help...Mode Button

it's not in the main manual, it's in the separate radio manual. what do you mean by "work properly"? do you want to switch between showing the radio and showing your phone's contact list? because without nav, that's all you get.

Everyone has a Mode button, but if you don't have the technology package it doesn't work, its honestly my only gripe with the car.

All the mode button does is switch between Bluetooth and radio display. That's it. It does not change your radio settings.

    Re: Need Help...Mode Button

I have NAV. When I press the button, all I get is "Insert Phone" on the guage display.

What I want it to do (thought it does this, maybe just because my TL did it and my Jeep GC too, but also because the sales lady said it should) is to change from Sirius, to AM/FM to CD, etc. Should it not do that? I mean press it once it goes to Sirius, press it again it switches to AM/FM radio, press it again and it goes to CD.

Like I said earlier I'm not really gonna use the Bluetooth, so if thats all the button does than thats a bummer. It be more convenient for driving to switch between the modes on the steering wheel than press the button under the NAV to switch.

Thanks for the responses so far btw.

^^ yeah, it wont do what you're thinking it will. It's not designed to switch through 'radio modes' unfortunately.

that is a problem I have with the car ... the button is there ... why not make it functional. It can't be that hard.

Nobody has hear of any VAG-Com codes that can activate this button??

It is functional, if you have bluetooth. I think it's very convenient. I don't mind reaching over and touching the radio to change between Sirius/SD/Ipod. Very easy...

Any idea how I could make it work? I have bluetooth and NAV. But again, all I get is "insert phone" when I press it.

That's all it will ever do. Face it...our cars are German, not Japanese.

Haha...right, thats all I want it to do. Change between radio settings. In your previous post you said it was possible with bluetooth, which I have, but I can't get it to change. Any ideas? Literally, when I press it, all I get is "Insert Phone". It does not do anything else. Doesn't change anything. It's driving me crazy.

If you hook your phone up to the car, you can then scroll through your phone book and make calls from the DIS. You have to hook the phone up within 10 mins of starting the car as that's when the bluetooth will be discoverable. Then enter the pair code and there you go. Now it's doing what it's supposed to. The bluetooth in our cars is really good. People always hear me clearly when I"m on the phone with it. The only thing that kinda stinks is that to have voice activated calling you have to match the names with the numbers manually. Read the book, it tells you all about it.

Just went back and re-read your thread a few up becuase I wasn't understanding. Ok. You meant the mode button is function if you have bluetooth only for bluetooth. I thought you meant its functional as a radio mode button if you have bluetooth. Now I'm clear thanks.

Well, that's my third gripe about the car. No sunglass holder, stock ipod is not any good (doesn't affect me, I ordered cd changer), and the mode button doesn't do modes. Those are small things. Overall I LOVE this car...and am 100% satisfied with my car. Now if they can fix the little things for future models in case I buy again!!
