B7 RS4 EPC comes.... and goes

    Damn.

It just happened again this morning. Fired up the car, let it warm up for a minute or so, then headed out of the car park. Within a few minutes of driving (part of which found me stuck in some heavy traffic), the EPC light showed up, and stayed on all the way till I got to my office.

This happened once before, around a week ago, and the EPC went away after some more driving, so after I got to office, I figured I'd take the car out for a drive to the dealership to have them take a look at it

As it were, on the way there, the EPC went away.

My daily mileage is not high, around 10 km to work, and another 10 km home on weekdays.

Does anyone here experience similar symptoms? What is the cause of this problem?

The only unusual thing that happens to the car is that I wash it every other day. Otherwise, it's driven spiritedly, but for short distances to work and back on weekdays, and I clock more mileage on the weekends.

Not that this will cause an EPC warning but waiting for your car to "warm up" does nothing but waste gas.

yeah, all RS4's do that. You are suppose to wait until the rpm's drop, "tiesto"! It's an RS4 thing....

I guess the EPC comes on as a result of not letting the car warm up properly then?

No, i'm not chipped or reflashed. Car was in the dealer two weeks back for new ECU update as well as to have the EPC sorted (intake manifold runner had to be realigned)

Re: B7 RS4 EPC comes.... and goes

Update. Car was sent to the dealer today. They pulled the code and it was something to do with the intake manifold something (runner?) with a Sporadic frequency. Said they will clean it when I bring it in for 45k km servicing in a couple of weeks.

What are they supposed to clean/replace? My warranty expires in August and I really don't want to have to wait till this becomes a repair and on my bank account.

I can't imagine many things would have to "warm up" in Dubai. Then again we've had to "warm up" jet engines over there so they won't run as hot. Go figure.

Re: B7 RS4 EPC comes.... and goes

Tell me about it. It's 36 centigrade here now in the mornings and early afternoons, peaking at 42.5 centigrade from 2 to 5 pm. Still, I'm not having any of the rpm oddness that some guys have (I'll monitor this in winter), so it's now a question of whether to get the intake manifold runner sensor (?) cleaned or replaced.

Dealer is saying that they will clean it, but I'm wondering what part needs to be cleaned/replaced and was hoping to get some advice from some of you guys who have been down the path

Re: B7 RS4 EPC comes.... and goes

Update: Car just dropped off at dealer's. Will find out what they are working on, but it's going to be in there for at least 2 days to sort out the intake manifold [something] and a fuel gauge that reads one mark short of a full tank when full
