Another stage 3 is born!!!

So the turbo bitch came calling last week, they started making some strange noises. The car still drove O.K. but with summer just arriving the last thing I wanted to do is baby the car all summer waiting for a melt down. So this is what has been accomplished in day one :

This is the leaking valve gasket, need to deal with.



so this is the end of day one, will keep up to date through out the week. The car is at Matrix and Jeremy is very kind and up dating me with photos. So far found a few extra problems to fix , like leaking valve covers, and cam seals, which are not leaking yet but since the valve covers are off might as well do them. Going with the full AWE kit with headers and all files with boost control option,wrapping the intakes, also will be doing ARP rod bolts on the advice of their tech, a bit pricey but what the hell . Hope all goes well.

Jeremy and Matrix is the best place to do something like this. I need to talk to Jeremy because hopefully by the end of the summer before school i will be going stage 3- and i need to figure out how much things are gonna be. Hope all goes well with the job, its in good hands and i'm sure you'll love it.

Yeah I would of went with vast, but I'm sure you'll be taken good care of.

I'd replace the clutch while you have everything out. But maybe that is included with the awe kit.

I all ready have the flash loader from GIAC, and liked the files. Also on a time constraint, this will be complete in 1 week, if I went custom might be a bit more complicated, can"t get any easier them buying a complete kit.

A lot of people have different opinions on which route to go, going home brew is a more cost effective way to go if you have the time for custom tune and organizing all the parts needed. For me the whole thing will be done in 7 days. The kit has been out for years now and I am very confident they have all the bugs worked out. I think most of the KO4 stage 3s are really close in power, having the race gas file pushes you over the edge when you really fill the need for speed.

Well your closer then me, I drove 6 hours to get there, best thing to do is e-mail Jeremy at [email protected] he will give you a break down on every thing, I don"t want to get into how much as there are so many variables.

Not to thread jack, but I have an AWE stage 3 kit for sale. his kit is AWE's $2400 fueling kit (minus coolant sensor, $20 and spark plugs, $90), but the ecu comes loaded (valet, 92 oct, 104 oct, kill and stock mode ($500+). The kit includes injectors upon swap of your ecu.

Oh and just in case you are wondering what the other items are. I am including a manual boost controller and AWE specific throttle cut defender (which are no longer offered by Vast). This is for if you have overboosting issues or if you have throttle cut issues.

You also have your choice of which software you want to run, including the latest boost controller file.

The one on the 21st will be smaller, but I am sure you car will be the highest hp/tq by far. Gives everyone else something to be excited about so c'mon out.

Skip that and get an OFE FE Stage 5. You'll melt the stage 3 with the power you are going to make. If you want to try it out give me a call as that is what is on my Avant.

O.K. thats interesting. I am picking the car up on the 16th, but I live in Vancouver B.C. not the other Vancouver OR. and I think I should break things in a little bit, plus I don't know if I could do the drive again so soon. I am not going to rule it out though. I'll keep tabs on that site you were talking about.

OFE stg3 is indeed very capable for a stg3 2.7T. We don't see any reason to go with anything more, even if you're going to <nicely> launch or drag the car.

Why did you pull the kit from your car ? Are you changing the car's tune or are you parting out the car and going back to stock ?

Looks like allot of cleaning, doing the water pump and timing chain,valve covers are off because of the leaky gasket, cam seals will be done too, on schedule.

Hey thanks for the advice. The plan for me was to do the awe kit, but it seems like doing a combo of vast and marc's fueling would be the best option w/ equal power, but if I had money left over would Rs6's push me over the Ko4's....

Do a search on the RS6 turbos, tons of info out there, yes they should give you more power but you will find out a bit more money, check it out.

Very nice, I'm extremely jealous! Glad to see a Vancouver Stg 3. It's too bad Matrix is the closest reputable shop for a stg 3 install, did you have to tow the car down to them?

On a side note if there is ever a local get-together I'd love to check out your car. I think you know Archimense off this board, he is also local and I think he may have recently gone stg 3 as well. Good luck with the rest of the build and enjoy the results!

However, I am wondering, neither one of you have acknowledged Kinetic Motorsport up in BC, are they retail only or is there another reason you are not using them ? or is it because they are not an AWE dealer ? or is it more of an financial advantage due to the weak US dollar and with Oregon being free of sales tax ?

Kinetic is actually only 30 seconds around the corner from me, but I don't know how many stage 3 installs they do. Clay's always been helpful when I pop in with questions but I think the last time I asked about having stg3 install done they would only quote me a per hour price, and would not give me an "all said and done" quote. I plan to eventually do the install myself but if I were in a pinch or had to have someone else do it I would want a total quoted price before I dropped of my car. Even one extra day at $75 an hour or whatever it is can add up pretty damn fast.

I don't think you can go wrong with either Matrix or Kinetic based on their reputations in the forums.

I would of gone locally if I didn't have a bad experience with the mechanics at Kinetic. They installed my down pipes ( ruined my censers when re-attaching to down pipes) installed my PPS9 coil overs ( dropped the car too low and tire pulled front passenger fender) tried to install drive line stabilizer, told me I had the wrong one, phoned the person who I bought from he told me there was only 1 type, went to another shop and they installed it no problem. Sorry I will never go there again. Clay may be very nice, but he is not the tech, and he is not doing the work on the cars. Matrix on the other hand has done 3 stage 3 installs in the last month alone. I would imagine Kinetic wouldn't of even done 3 period.
