    What springs ...

Posting on behalf of the wifey, heh, the wife wants to lower her car. She has a 2.0t premium, I was thinking that the Eibach pro-kit would be a good choice. Thoughts?

    Re: What springs ...

How low do you want to go? I don't have any feedback on the Eibach pro-kit, but if you go that route I'd recommend to combine them with Koni FSDs. You can usually find them packaged together for a good price.

    Re: What springs ...

Go with Eibach Sportlines instead. It's not too low and still rides comfy on 17s. Here's my wife's A3 for reference.

    Re: What springs ...

Depends how low you want to go, sport springs will be just like ride height on sport/s-line suspension. Race will go down another inch or so.

That looks great, I think she'll like that look ... is there a vendor preference on where to order them? I was thinking of tirerack.com ..

    Re: What springs ...

Just remember when you lower car without using shorter-piston sport shocks you are both limiting suspension travel and moving the shock out of the piston range it's supposed to be operating in. The first means suspension bottoming on bumps and driveways, the second means poor ride and handling, and shortened shock life.

Audi uses (typically) Sachs OEM struts and Monroe Sensatrac rear shocks. The Monroes utilizes short grooves along the center section of the strut piston to get compliance for low speed bumps. Lower the car past those grooves and that low-speed compliance and the ride comfort it provides goes away. And the Sach struts will just pound away on their bump stops until one or the both fail prematurely.

The Eibach springs are fine, but team them with a good set of matched shocks, whether they are Koni FSD, Sport or Bilsteins is really secondary to making sure you make both pieces match from the get go.

This is especially true with Premium Edition A3s that have notoriously soft shocks from the factory and do not match well with stiffer lowering springs.

And, your wife will be much happier. Trust me on this.

    Re: What springs ...

So Koni FSD's and Eibach Sport springs would be a good match? If so, any vendor recommendation?

    Thanks for the input :)

where I got my combo: http://www.neuspeed.com/products/pro...euro&p_id=1964

not too low, but gets rid of the unsightly wheel well gap. Also handling felt MUCH sportier and crisper compared to my stock S-Line suspension, so coming from premium suspension, the improvement would be even more night-and-day for you and your wife!

Thanks Mr. Wifey! I like that the amount of drop is definitely noticable both by looks and by feel, but still practical enough to get around on hilly roads and slanted parking lots without having to worry about scraping anywhere. Practical, sporty, and stylish!

Sorry, but you're just wrong. Coilovers aren't for everybody, but just putting short springs on a premium car leaves you with an underdamped suspension that bottoms out all the time.

Not if you get the right springs.. Why would a wife need adjustable coilovers which are gonna cost probably a grand more than springs?

^I belive your right fusion the right spring and shock combo will not bottom and ride nice but I love my KW V2's. I have it low enough to look custom but high enough to not rub with passengers or sporty driving on 19's.

Nice Mike -- you just sold me on those 40mm springs. Did you guys pair it with aftermarket shocks or are those stock sport shocks?
