I saw the MJM deal and Im thinking about getting coilovers.
I mainly want them for performance and some light track duty and was wondering if anybody could shed some light on me.

    Re: Koni coilovers?

Not sure how they fair on the track, but I've heard that they are a very nice ride for the street when compared with a bilstein shock spring combo.

There is a GB going on for B5 Koni coilovers right now as well!

    Re: Koni coilovers?

I love mine for the track, but at an autox it seems like the rear springs are not strong enough for me, and I have a big rear sway bar too..

Do a search for my autox video to see and incar video of how much it sways..

    Re: Koni coilovers?

Not many street suspensions will be stiff enough for competitive autocross.

    Re: Koni coilovers?

I have come to realize this and am shopping for stiffer springs that will fit..

Any suggestions? I know I could go custom perches and go with a standard 2.5 x 12" or something, but I would rather have a progressive spring..

    Re: Koni coilovers?

Vogtland GT like I have have progressive 675 to 760 in the back 575 to 670 in front, not harsh on street.
You could also get Stasis Tracksports which you can get at any spring rate but they are linear.

    Pinky,

I realize that, but this IS my daily driver and I'd rather not be running 600lbs on the street, then picking up my grandma from the hospital, then taking my boss on a buisness trip..

Squarrl, you might have something with those Voglands...

    Re: Koni coilovers?

I wouldn't bother changing it unless you are in the running for a points championship. Spending hundreds for a little plastic FTD trophy isn't worth it. I've got a couple in the garage I could give you if you really want one.

Autocross is unlike any other motorsport. The setup required to be truly competitive is dangerous on the street. We're talking about 1/16" toe out front and rear, overly stiff springs, and an overall progression towards instability. If you are running a daily driver then don't get too caught up in it or the compromises will get the better of you.

An old roommate and I got into autox pretty deep about 7 years ago. I even housed a few hundred cones and the timing gear in my basement. We set the two fastest times of the day at SBR-SCCA's Tire Rack autocross school and impressed the Topeka veterans (national champions) that were instructing. This was in a 94 Jetta VR6 with 260,000 miles.

    Re: Koni coilovers?

Well i've been running autox's in a track setup 944 turbo for about 7 years; but the car just never got competitive. I come out here with this Audi and I post a full second faster on my street tires.. On my last autox there were only 5 cars (out of 70) on street tires that were faster than me. A 996TT, Cayman, GT3, and 2 Boxster S's.

This car has suprised the crap out of me and everyone else, and I have come to find out my suspension is way off and my shocks are unevenly adjusted..

Im going to run the Koni's this season and see how I feel at the end.

    you're 100% correct

i had to DD my old rabbit (sold now) for a week while my gti was in the body shop.. it SUCKED with overly stiff linear springs, slight toe out, no heat, no a/c (middle of summer), no interior, full cage, 5-pt harnesses, etc etc...

konis seem like a solid choice.. i have H&Rs on my '98 and they're nice.. havent autox'd it yet, but i wanna.. although i think i need better tires first.
