So I just got the revo trial...screams at 4500?

So I finally decided to try out Revo since I've put about 6K miles on this car and I noticed there is a much more pronounced sound beyond 4500 rpm. Is this normal? Its almost like a screaming or a whining. Is this the DV already torn? Or is this just the turbo working even harder? The car definitely seems quicker at the top end of my rev range, below 4K there isnt as much noticeable difference.

EDIT: Let me add that its not extremely loud. Its just a high pitched whining a little lower than a hissing if that makes any sense? I only hear it above 4500.

Only way to really tell is log requested vs actual or get a boost gauge, but my bet is you're hearing the turbo for the first time.

if it sounds like a loud high pitched dog wistle its ur cat, i had friend have the same prob, and he got a foge dv it still did it, but once he put a tp in it stopped.

i know on mine the sound was more deeper.. i could sometimes hear the boost a little, but def the sound was fantastic with stock exhaust.

I feel like before you could hear some turbo but not much, only if your stereo was off or if you were outside the car. As is, above 4500 you definitely hear the speed if you know what I mean...you get more intake sound and what I'm now assuming is turbo sound

Mine does the exact same thing on APR 93. It's normal. The dealer has tested my stock DV and it's fine. It just whistles like hell. I'm getting a Forge in a week anyway, but just to let you know, my car's been chipped since 3K miles and I now have 23K on it.

Not normal. I had APR 93 and I heard no such thing. One can clearly tell the difference between the whoosh of the turbo and a whistle. Get your DV/PCV looked at.

I had the same thing with APR 91 with original DV and PCV. I checked both and they were still good. I installed an exhaust and I haven't heard that whistle since.

Yeah its hard for me to be sure because before chip there was hardly any sound at all....just a litttttle bit of intake sound...now theres a definitive audible sound like I said in the high rev range.

I would also purchase the select or select plus switch so u could switch back to stock when you have your car in service.

My car has made the same whistle. Had the stock DV replaced because I cracked it. Made the whistle again after (may have cracked another). at this very moment its having the forged DV installed. I didnt notice any real loss in performance so it wasnt a real concern. Not to mention ive read every post on this topic and there is not one single person who knows for sure what it is, or what can be done to fix it or if it is even anything bad, yet ive read about TONS of people having the same whistle.....

I laugh everytime people bring this topic up. to make a final conclusion on this, its becasue the car is chipped and your pushing more psi now. ITS COMPLETLY FINE. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A TORN DV.

i say record a sound clip on youtube from under your hood as best you can and let the experts on here decide. Are you still hearing the sound after your 5 hour trial? Was the trial the first time you ever actually pushed the car past 4 or 5000 rpm? the place the did your trial should be able to listen to it right away and tell you whether to take it in or if youre cool. p.s.- if you go to the dealer then do NOT mention the REVO trial.

My white B7 did the same "banchee" kind of screaming too!

After about 40K i ended up chipping off a exhaust valve! I have APR now!

But as usual we still have tons of people with "banshee" screaming cars at above 4K RPMs and no one is sure what it is or if its bad!

perhaps it's due to the restrictive stock exhaust? Jersey_Anthony mentioned that once he changed to a TP, the noise went away? And DoThisMyWay mentioned that after he installed an exhaust system, he hasn't heard the noise since.

Perhaps the high backpressure is doing something and causing the noise?


Can anyone confirm/deny it?

I've definitely driven this car into the higher rev ranges before and I didnt hear this then...I did hear turbo but the turbo wasnt this loud. I think due to the chip I just hear more later because its pushing more PSI. Pre-chip I felt the car was weak 5K and beyond, now I feel like it pushes all the way to mid 6K.


EDIT: Mind you this sound is not an actual scream/extremely loud. Its just there. I definitely dont mind it, I just wanted to know if this was normal or not and there seems to be quite a bit of contention.

if there are no other symptoms its probably fine. I'd like to know what years are screamers to see if there's a correlation. I screamed before my chip and now its more pronounced with apr 93. I'm happy with my boost & torque. Seems ok to me.

I had my Forge DV installed yesterday and its still got the howl at 4000RPM+. Got into a little run with a modified E36 M3 and kept on his ass the whole time with my A/C on high. Pretty happy with those results especially because I could tell his car wasnt stock! I'm going to agree with the other guys thats its gotta be the exhaust system or something because the dealer couldnt find anything and the DV has been replaced!

I have actually gotten the Traction Control light to flash on while flooring it in 1st out of a turn. Something uncommon in my AWD A4. I also have a manual. The performance increase is across the board....292lb-ft or torque or whatever it is around there is even more then my E46 M3 had. A much needed improvement in the A4!

because my last audi was a 2.0T. I had Revo Stage II with other shit and it sounded like that from day one. car ran great. nothing was affected.

my friends say i have whistle tips.. cause my car whistles so loud up in the 4500+ range...

yet boost looks fine .. A/F is good..

and below the video of my putting down 200whp and 257tq.. cant hear whistle tips but ill get a video up soon.

I know this thread is old, but I realized I never updated...after the trial ran out found that the car still has a loudish turbo sound (must have just not noticed before) and the car is running just fine. Didnt take it in but I can tell that it still has the stock performance. Not sluggish at all. I'm going to pop in a BMC filter, the GSG Intake pipe, and get Revo done within the next couple weeks. FINALLY.

i have the same loud whistle after i installed my exhaust but im still running full boost i dont notice any problems.
