    there won't be an 09' A4 2.0T Quattro 6spd?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I call the Audi of Stratum in NH this afternoon and try to get a little info on the B8, I'm debating an 08 B7 or an 09 B8... I want a 2.0T Quattro 6spd, and I wont drive automatic or DSG or Triptronic, I want a straight up stick... And the dealer goes, "there will be no 6spd manual transmission for the 2009 A4"... first I laugh thinking hes joking, then he says "yea we've been talking about it here and think its probably not the best idea but they didnt ask us".... IS THIS TRUE?!?!?! AM I SOL IF I GET AN 09?!?!?!?! tell me it aint sooo!!!!!... and lastly, how much harder is it going to be to lower this new one with dynamic ride control?!... AUDI DAMN YOU FOR MAKING THESE CARS HARD TO MOD!!!! thx guys for the response

There's an article on popsci.com with a new a4 review and they state there won't be a manual in the US. They cite "lack of demand". I agree, if there's no manual, I don't want one.

    Re: there won't be an 09' A4 2.0T Quattro 6spd?!

I am not happy about it, but it doesn't suprise me. Less than 10% of cars in the US are bought with manual transmissions. Maybe the specific % for Audi A4s has been higher, but it aparently is still low enough for Audi to nix the clutch on the 2.0T model, just as they did on the new TT. (Are they eliminating it for the A4 3.2 as well?)

The new A4 is substantially larger, more luxurious and A6 like, so i can see why they may be doing away with the manual. It won't exactly be a tiny euro sedan anymore, it'll be near mid size which means less people will see it as 'sporty' and request a manual. If reports I read are correct the new B8 S4 will only come with a 7 speed DSG, but hopefully that is just an option along side a traditional 6M. VAG is loving this DSG...the R32, TT 2.0T, now possibly the B8 will not have traditional manuals.

Oh, and Audi doesn't build cars to be mod friendly. A vast majority of Audi owners leave their cars bone stock. In fact Audi prefers that as they get negative press when modding a car brings up more reliability issues.

that just sucks, Im sorry but what happened to driving? last I checked it was more fun to have the clutch and ACTUALLY drive instead of hit down or up for a shift... I own both an auto and a stick and the auto is just boring on fun roads... well maybe Im not looking at an a audi anymore...

    Re: there won't be an 09' A4 2.0T Quattro 6spd?!

Hmmm... I'm skeptical of this. I'm very interested in the new 3.0TDI B8A4 and it will ONLY be available with a 6-speed at release. I think that probably at first most models will show up with only autos/dsgs and the Manuals might come later. It would make no sense otherwise and VAG would learn from their mistakes because they made this one recently already.

The Mk5 R32 is DSG only and the lack of a manual option has deemed the car a complete failure in terms of sales. Dealerships can't get rid of the damn things, just because nobody wants one with an automatic (not to mention a very expensive automatic).

I wouldn't read into it too much. I know only 1 person with an automatic in their VW/AUDI/BMW and it's a girl who drives a jetta. Everybody else (including my parents and both in-laws) has manuals.

I think there have been far too many swirling and self-confirming rumors about this car, specifically about the manual transmission. The review in popsci.com says, "Don’t expect a six-speed manual in the US, though–not enough demand." (If they got that from Audi at Infineon, I haven't seen that confirmed by anyone else who was there.)

The latest from Audi officially, that I've seen, was their detailed May 1, 2008 press release: "The 2.0 TFSI [...] will be available in North America with quattro drive and both manual and Tiptronic transmissions for sedan..." That's confirmed in several places in the press release.

I could live with the DSG and the paddle shifters. I have to admit it was pretty fun little system when I was driving a loaner A3. Living in a highly populated area it certainly provides a level of comfort. But nothing can be a substitute for manual shifting. However the DSG will give you much faster gear transfers than manual shifting

I've heard the 2.0T 6MT will be available by next February if not sooner. I don't think Audi is ready to drop it completely from the NA market. Who knows what they will do when they have DSG ready for the longitudinally mounted engines. I'm kinda looking forward to DSG on the A5/S5 and B8 S4. I like having the automatic option on a manual tranny.

That's funny cause Motor Trend says it will first be launched in the states in the 3.2L quattro 6M configuration. Later on they will start shipping the 2.0T (supposedly a slightly revised design) and it will either have a 6m, DSG or both.

All I can say is Audi sure has been able to keep a tight lid on a car that is going to start showing up at NA dealerships in 60 days. I'd say that's pretty frustrating for everyone.

The Audi dealer in Nyack NY (Palisades Audi) had a B8 A4 on the showroom floor last Saturday. My wife sat in the car and LOVED the interior!
No window sticker on the car and they wont be available until September. Mfg date on the door jam was 11-2007.

Manual transmission is only going to be available on FWD 2.0t's, much like VW has been doing. Audi is phasing out manuals, supposedly no manual for s4, no manual for rs. good job audi.

THANK GOD... still no answer on how hard you guys think the new dynamic suspension will be to lower... will i still be able to do coils? or just lowering springs???

I have read on another forum site that 6sp manuals will be here in the US, and my dealer in North Miami, stated this "Manuals will come, but not in the first units to come to the states, but later". I personally understand that Audi would limit manuals in the states, but this is a euro manufactured car - they build them that way, so why not ship them to the states. And, by the way, almost all VWs are available in a man. trany, except for the passat wagon & the R32. Now, not all ver. of a model have the option but almost all models have it (but probably not the mini van thing... but that is made in NA).

But, I want a man. trany too, and if they do not have it - back to VW or a used BMW.

Audi, and a few weeks back.

It would seem Audi is going to be treating manual transmission much like VW does- as the cheap affordable (entry level) version, almost completely ruling out the possibility of an enthusiast market.

I'm sorry I sounded so abrupt. I asked, because the information that the MT6 would only be available on FWD A4s first circulated briefly early this year -- along with various rumors like no quattro available until later; only 3.2 available at first; etc. etc. etc.

Audi's recent official information seems to contradict the MT6-only-on-FWD information. They clearly intend to offer the MT6 with the 2.0T quattro sedan -- the question for me is when.

And I don't see anything from Audi now about FWD for the U.S. at all.

I might actually (sacrilege!!) go for a FWD A4 if that was the only way I could get an MT6. As it is, I've been intending to jump ship from VW to Audi, since VW now only offer a manual on the Passat base model. Which you're alluding to.

    Re: there won't be an 09' A4 2.0T Quattro 6spd?!

From various sources, saying various things, here's what I've been able to get:

Initial A4 sedans will be the V6 models FWD and AWD with tiptronic auto's only.
Very soon, almost concurrently, the 2.0 TFSI will be available as FWD or AWD with
6spd manual, tip, and CVT (only in FWD models).
After that DSG will be coming, but no word as to when. With DSG, it will be available in AWD, maybe even FWD. DSG should be available on both the V6 and 2.0 models.

The A4 Avant will NOT have a manual trans option at all for the US in 2.0 or V6 versions. That doesn't bother me as I don't need a sport wagon. The Avant is very nice if you like and need a sport wagon. Too bad about the no manual trans thing.
However, DSG WILL come when Audi is ready for it.

If you haven't driven the DSG, DON'T be quick to judge. It's an awesome trans setup.
Yeah, no left leg work out, but after a few fast and happy miles, I really didn't miss having to push in the clutch.

If I go with an A4 again, I'll opt for the manual trans. If the DSG is available at the same time, I'll probably go for the DSG, and I'm a manual trans guy. The DSG
    IS THAT GOOD.

no manual a4 quattro would be a BIG mistake on Audi's part, so i hope they end up releasing it. i was actually considering going FWD again if it meant i could get a 6spd.

I'm not surprised at all. Audi usually launches the auto a couple of months before the manual for some inexplicable reason.

The US and Canada vary in base and package content, as well as availability dates. It doesn't surprise me to read what you put there.

It still goes with "initial" A4's will be V6 auto's with 2.0T coming fairly quickly right after. The 2.0T is THE bread and butter A4 for Audi, so it wont' be "months" later, but more like weeks, meaning very quickly soon after.

My local Audi dealer have VERY few A4's on the lot, for about a month now. I'm sure they're hoping for the new A4 sooner than later.

Also, ordering could take longer than when the actual cars will be available. Dealers sometimes order and sometimes get allocations sent to them. So, A4's could be available weeks sooner than the cars that actually get ordered by customers.

Well, it was taking about four months to factory-order a B7. Best case now, factory-ordering a B8 would mean end of October delivery.

But you've got a point... with fewer option variables, the chances might be higher with a B8 of finding something you like without factory-ordering.

it would suck if theres no 6mt 2.0t quattro In the new a4 ...... I've been waiting to buy this car since the first release I saw of it on edmunds...... I see potential for it... coming from the toyota and mitsubishi turbo family... theres nothing like having luxury and power at the same time. besides I've noticed most pilots like myself own audis and bmw's so its time for me to make a change

In the new Car and Driver they say that next spring the 2.0T will be offered with a six speed manual.

Spoke with my local dealer today and was told the 6-speed 2.0 Quattro will be here by January, early Feb at the latest. Take it for what it's worth...

VAG wants to be phase out manual cars all together with the continuing advancement of DSG with the heads at Porsche being the biggest propopnents. They are saying between 2012 and 2015 no more stick.

    Re: there won't be an 09' A4 2.0T Quattro 6spd?!

Ive been looking into getting an Audi, I had recently discovered that they were finally going to send a 2.0 A3 AWD over but without a 6spd

Then on top of that the other model I love the A4 appears to only be offered as AWD tiptronic. WTF

Hope this all changes before I lose my love for Audi
