First, remove bolts, #8 in pic, you will need to hold the guide pin the the bolts screw into with a thin 15 mm open end wrench. Next, remove the parking brake cable from the caliper lever, then pull the cable from the holder, move aside. Next, work the caliper toward the back, until free from the pads. Now you need to reset the caliper piston by simultaneously pushing the piston back into the caliper cylinder, and turning the piston CLOCKWISE, using a special tool that fits the piston and takes a 3/8" ratchet extension, available at most auto parts stores, KD Tools brand is one, it is a cube shaped tool about 1 in square.
Turn the piston back into the caliper until it stops, don't force past the stop point.
Clean everything up good, I recommend Castrol Super Clean, and rinse with water.
Pull the guide pins out and re-grease using caliper grease. Make sure the guide pin rubber boots are not torn or missing, replace if bad, otherwise water will get into the guide pins and cause the pins to seize up.
Reassemble, make sure the "V" shaped anti rattle springs on the pads are spanning the caliper window, you will need to push against these springs to screw the bolts back into the guide pins. If one end of the anti rattle springs is mispositioned, and is free in the caliper window, reposition the spring ends before installing the guide pin bolts.
Tighten the guide pin bolts to 30 Nm. Reinstall parking brake cables. Remount wheels, torque lug bolts to 95Nm. Finally, before starting engine, press brake pedal until the pedal firms up, then while holding the e-brake lever button IN, rapidly apply and release the e-brake about 20 times, pulling the lever firmly tight each stroke, to reset the parking brake. e-brake lever should make about 2 or 3 clicks to engage.
Check the brake fluid reservoir lever, top up as needed. Test drive. Done.

If you dont have a caliper tool or a clamp to compress the caliper once you get the brakes out it going to be tough getting it back together. Its a relatively easy job, but i would first pick up a chiltons manual from pep boys. Where are you located in NYC?

Bolts hold the caliper in. The pad can just be tapped off the caliper once it has been taken off of the car. I doubt I can offer anything else that can't be deciphered from the picture above.

You need to go to autozone and rent the brake caliper piston retraction tool. It's $35 up front but you get it back when you return it. Don't bother trying to do it with anything else, it's just too easy to do it this way. If you need help, try the Northeast regional forums, there's a thread there with a knowledable guy that's offering to do some work for people on the cheap. He helped me on my brakes last summer.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.
    12/5/10 - 100k miles & counting!
    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.
