I'm sooooo glad I did't buy an S4

I filled up this morning on Oct 94 at $1.58/L. That's about $6/gal for a $100 fillup. Does this bother me? Not so much...I drove back and forth to Seattle on Friday and got in the range of 35MPG driving between 70 and 80 MPH. This is my first hwy trip and it's the first time I experience getting this kind of efficiency out of a car.

Then yesterday I did an SCCA Solo 1 event and SCCA AutoX today, putting down some serious times. The times haven't been officially posted yet but I know today I won my class (STX) and was beaten by only two other cars in SP class (mods and r-comps).

Impressive fuel economy and performance combined. I'm really diggin' my A4 and though I was unsure about it at the time, I now know passing on the S4 was the right thing to do for me. Gas is only going to keep creeping higher.

Used to have an S4 - it was fun while I had it. Ridiculous city mpg (13-15 mpg). I am glad I made the change otherwise I would be spending alot of money on gas which just doesn't sit well with me.

I know the MPG Im about to tell is nothing compared to your A4's (use to have 2.0T) but I do get 24.+mpg on the highway which is not to bad.

Yeah.. sucks if you can't afford it. $70/tank for me filling up almost twice a week is not economical... but hearing and feeling that V8 is worth it for me coming from an A4.

stop your crying...im in poland and it's almost $9/gallon for 98 oct here. I pay over 100 dollars to fill up my little a$$ diesel...but i get like 50+mpg in it.....:) :) :)

Hehe you guys.......Filled up my car yesterday at 10,50$\ gallon. 98 Oct. It cost me 164$ to top it of....Norway is a great place to live but man we have to pay for it!!!!

Install a GT28R. May highway consumption has gone down drastically!!
Although the consumption on the backroads has gone up dramatically.

All in all though I am getting a lower fuel consumption, and that helps at what $160 a fill up.
With these prices I'll recoup my turbo investment in ohh... 14 years or so..

It's not just Norway it's all of europe. And now everyone is telling me prices for diesel have gone up higher than prices of gasoline which is very rare for poland and everyone drives diesel cars here. But i must say, my mercedes benze a180 got as low as 3.2L/100km (about 70mpg) doing the posted speed limit for over 300km, regular driving (meaning fast) i get 4-5L/km (45-60mpg) easy. My next car state side is a diesel hands down.

I just bought a '89 Accord LX-i for a daily driver. 2.2L 4 cyl., still gets great gas mileage and costs about $15 less to fill than my A4. She is now officially a garage queen.

In some countries like Belgium petrol is taxed with a fixed amount and diesel with a percentage. My father in law was telling me that over there many people are stepping over from diesel to petrol because with tax etc.. its almost cheaper not to drive a diesel.

Vancouver. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world and one of the best places to live in the world but it's also THE most expensive place in North America for gas. Gotta pay to play.

Read before you respond, otherwise you can come accross as a buffoon. This thread is not a complaint about the high cost of gas in the US or North America. It's about appreciating a car that is both fuel efficient and fun at a time when the price of fuel is rising rapidly. It applies to those who used to pay $2/gal and now pay $4 as well as those who used to pay $7/gal and now pay $9. This is the first 4cyl I've owned on over 10 years and I was shopping around for an S4 as well. I saw buying an A4 as a big compromise but after two months of fun, I no longer see it that way.

Agreed, except that countries with low gas prices don't have it better; they just have it better now. Eventually something has to give and debt accumulated directly or indirectly as a result of subsidies has to be paid back. Economics 101: No such thing as a free lunch.
