Start up problem, searching didn't help.

When the car has been off for hours, left over night etc.. (basically starting up when the engine is cold) it doesn't start up right. I turn the key, the rpms go up to about 200, then the car dies. however, second start up, it'll start up fine but the rpms will move up slowly.

originally it would start up first try, but the rpms would hover around 100-400rpms before idling at 800. but now it won't even start up first try.. so it's getting worse in a short amount of time. so i don't think it's a vacuum problem

MAF was replaced due to another problem

any ideas? i'm about to head out to buy a new fuel filter, but i don't think thats the problem. maybe fuel pump?

the outside temp doesn't matter, it happens at both 50 degrees and 90 degrees. my SAI still turns on at 90+ degrees which is odd, but I don't think it's related.

It is a longshot but a bad coolant temp sensor can cause some problems like that. The ecu doesn't know the car is cold and tries a hot start map which just won't work. The cam position sensor is a more likely bet though.

Alright, you guys are awesome. I'm not getting a cell though, I thought a cam position sensor would throw one?

I'm about to head out now to work on my car.. I'm also getting a hissing noise and a very small leak on one of my hoses near the intake manifold. Going to remove my intake mani just to get to the hose and find a part number so I can replace it, I'll clean my throttle body while I'm at it..

My coolant temp was replaced by me, just before they issued the warranty for it. So I'll shell out the cash for a cam position sensor and hope that it fixes the problem.. assuming the leaky/hissing hose isn't the issue.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Could the hissing hose be the L hose on the right of the intake manifold? My 2001 had a nasty tear in it and cause start up problems but i had rather crazy misfires and wouldn't stay on.

I think the hissing noise might be coming from this, it's the only hose I could find that was obviously an issue.

it's the hose with all the oil/crud on it.

I'm about to make another post regarding that hose and a couple other things I have questions about.
