    S4 "Switched" Wire

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am trying to hardwire my radar detector into my overhead light console where the moonroof control is. I had it like this in my last car and I am just looking for a switched wire that turns the radar on and off with the car. I have searched the forums but can find anything conclusive. Will the green one to the homelink work? If not please let me know which color is the power wire. I have a 2001 S4 Avant. Thanks in advance.

it might just be easier to run a wire to a fuse, that way you wont need to tap into any wires. Just run the radar wire through the headliner, down the a piller and into the fuse box.

    I couldn't find a switched wire in my A4 (1998), but I did find a constant one.

    Re: S4 "Switched" Wire

if you run to the fuse panel just tap into something thats swiched there... one example is the wiper/washer wire. Thats what I used. IMO having a switched wire with the valentine is that importatng becuase of how easy it is to turn it off, but if you have to have it that way try the wiper fuse.

    Re: S4 "Switched" Wire

I ended up just using a constant wire. It will take some getting used to but oh well. I had to get up at 1am yesterday because I realized I had left it on.

However, I do love my new S4. It turned out perfect. I will clean it up and take some pictures in the coming days.

u are doing the hardest method, run it to the fuse box down the a pillar, i used fuse #37, but since u have an avant, that won't work in your case

You don't need to tap into a fuse, tap into terminal 75x. It is a switched 12v source and is very easy to tap into.

    Re: S4 "Switched" Wire

I am fine with a constant source. I just have to get in the habit of turning it off, and in the case I do leave it on it won't drain the battery unless I do for a few days. It was such a PITA to get the overhead console back in, with the radar detector ground and the other wires out of the way that its not worth it right now. Perhaps in a little bit when I have time to kill and forgot how bad it was I might switch it.

    Re: S4 "Switched" Wire

There are a million places to get a switched source - but the point is there is a constant source right there in the sunroof console. No running wires down the A-Pillar, etc. I hard-wired my radar detector into the same spot and run just a short wire down behind my rearview mirror - it's perfect.

Looking to hardwire my V1 - sorry for n00b question, but where is this term 75X located? Under the dash or under the hood/cover where ECU is?

    Sorry to raise old thread...

Although not the best option, I wired mine to the OBDII port under the steering console. It offers switched power and it never caused any errors.
