So i got an oil change 3000 miles ago from valvoline and did a slug thing with them.

I went back there a few days ago to get my oil changed again and they told me my car burned almost all 6q of oil out of my car in those 3000 miles.. He told me i need to get my car looked at soon because its burning oil fast.. What could be my problem? Not sure what could be causing this.. car is old though has about 130k miles on it..

I would think that if its burning it that fast you would see it in smoke out the tail pipe. Also I would think it would foul out your spark plugs. How are your turbo's? Are you still running with the original turbo's?

Also maybe its leaking oil too. Our cars are known to leak oil pretty good.

Re: my car is burning a lot of oil.. help

So when you came back in you had only 1 Qt of oil left in the car? This sounds scary!
Like Gointoscott said, there should be MAJOR smoke coming out your exhaust or a huge puddle under your car.

I wouldn't drive it until you solve your problem though

If you had oil on the dipstick, wouldn't that mean you only burned thru 1 quart? Or was it just a tiny drop on the very bottom?

I'll bet if you're not seeing a lot of smoke and no puddles that you have a turbo about to go out.

Re: my car is burning a lot of oil.. help

Yea if there was oil on the dipstick then theres no way in hell it was 5+qts low...unless that tiny drop was from oil running on it from the dipstick tube. Your car would be knocking like hell as well as running extremely hot if it were that low, not to mention that your oil pump would probably be whining really bad from being starved of oil on hills and through fast turns etc. You wouldve had tons of problems already if it was really that low...and thats considering the engine hasnt grenaded itsself yet.

The oil HAS to go somewhere. If it was burning it that fast you would be leaving massive clouds of smoke, and if it was leaking that bad you would be leaving huge puddles. Honestly, you would have to be completely retarded to not notice losing 5qts of oil in 3k miles, and since you managed to get on here and make this post i doubt youre that retarded lol I would have them change it again and then drive it around normally while checking for smoke/leaks once or twice daily. If it is losing oil that quickly you will see it and be able to figure out where its going. Dont trust those lube places, ive had some friends that work there who dont know their ass from a hole in the ground. Good luck man, and i hope it turns out to be something minor.

A bad valve cover coupled with a bad cam tensioner seal would net you about a 1 quart loss every 3k miles. That's about the only way I can think of you losing oil without noticing it. But, not 5 quarts, lol.
