check engine light on/fan being ridiculously loud

    hey guysss...

it's been over 100 degrees here for the past two days, and yesterday i noticed my fan was ridiculously loud when i started my car yesterday afternoon (i have a 2002 audi a4 with about 92,000 miles on itttt). if i rev the engine a little bit, the noise goes away and its a regular fan noise. however, if i stop at a stop light or let it idle for a few seconds, the loud noise starts again.

today, i started the car and drove about 15 minutes (the loud noise still happened when i started the car) but when i got back in the car to come home, the check engine light came on and stayed on.

has this happened to anyone else? anyone have any ideas? i'm thinking about taking it up to advance or something to have it scanned, but any help or ideas would be awesome :) thanks!

sounds normal to me, since its hotter out, the fan will turn on more often

uggh, this whole "fan noise" has really opened a can of worms...

i took it up to advance auto parts to have a scan done because of my check engine light.

turns out, the error was that my camshaft timing is over-advanced. great. (i guess i should ad that i filled up my tank with mid grade (89) gas last week -- a recommendation made by my dad to save a few dollars) after searching for seriously, two hours on other audi forums, apparently this is the reason for my check engine light. however, what worries me know is the knocking noise my car is making when i start it up. yesterday, the noise was only when the car started... now as i drive it more and more, the noise because more and more apparent. i filled it up with premium (93) just now... and i'm going to reset the computer in my car.

do you think the knocking will subside on its own, after the car re-adjusts to the high octane level? or should i really take it into the dealership?

    any help is appreciated, thanks:)
