    Tires rubbing need some helps

Guys/ladies, been roaming around here for a while. I just picked up my new A4 and so far it is spectacular. I got new wheels and tires and a new suspension along with some other things. So here is the issue, my 235/40/18 rub in the front on most any small bump/dip. They are rubbing on the outside mostly.

So what is my best option? Are other rubbing with this setup?

I got lowered the standard amount and have a 25.5 front ride height (this is where the rub is). ET is 35 size 18x8 on the wheels, will going to 225/40/18 solve my issue? Also should I look into rolling fenders?

I see a lot of people with much larger setups on here, does everyone have rolled fenders?

Re: Tires rubbing need some helps

i'm running 245/35/19's and just had mine raised (adjustable coilovers) a half inch because of the rubbing. I really didn't want to raise it because it looked real good when it was slammed, but I couldn't justify rubbing down the sidewalls of my brand new tires...

In regards to putting 225's on, it will probably help a little because you will be rubbing a little further up on the fenderliner due to a more narrow tire. However, I don't think that it will make that big of a difference. In regards to rolling your fenders; from what I have read on these forums, you can't really roll the front fenders, however you can roll the back fenders (don't know why, but that is what I remember reading on here). This solution probably won't help you since you are getting most of your rub up front... Another solution would be to try and adjust your camber to tuck your wheels in a little bit (my neighbor suggested this when I told him I was rubbing). I chose not to do this because I wanted my tires to wear evenly. So basically, if you don't have adjustable suspension, I don't really know what to tell you.

EDIT: after doing some searching, it looks like I was backwards... You can roll the fronts but it will be more difficult to roll the rears. So this might be a good solution for you...

I have heard the opposite.. in that you can only roll out the front fenders and not the back. I have 20'' rims wit H&R springs and I am not rubbing in the front. My shop removed this screw in the front that they do to a lot of people for avoiding rubbing. For more info on it PM HackerS4, he works a the shop I go to.

I think I will just try putting on 225, these are stasis Coilovers so will also give them a ring to see what tire size they recommend. I also think I may have some luck with Tirerack, I chose just to leave it as is and call them first thing Monday only have 20-30 miles on the tires. What is this screw that a everyone takes out to make there tires tuck more? It seems that would make them wear really poorly how many miles do you get out of a set of tires?

    Thanks everyone

To tell you the truth I don't really know about tires wearing down because since I got my springs I have only put like 2k miles on my car. This is also something I do not worry about much at all because of the fact that I only put 6-7K miles on my car a year.

Also those that are lowered once you get every thing dialed in and you take a corner hard do you rub? I plan on tracking my car and doing some autoX so I want to make sure I a going the right route.
    Thanks

First off, if you plan on autocrossing your car, you have it set up all wrong if you have it lowered as much as it sounds like it is.

As for the rubbing, remove the screw from the top of the fenderliner. Feel along the edge of the fender, at the top you'll feel a screw. Remove this screw and trim the plastic tab off with a razer blade. 90% of the time this fixes rubbing issues in the front.

Re: Tires rubbing need some helps

My car's on 235/35/19, my left wheel rubs the side fender except I take it very very (VERY) slow. I fugured the rubbing didn't damage either the tire or the fender. If you put a finger in the inside of the fender you ll find a screw at the very top point of the opening, I guess that's where the rubbing come from.

But for me, I still don't understand why only my left side rubs, right side is ok. When I put my fingers in, I found my left side is very slightly lower than the right, why the hell was that? some comments?

What does this screw do and why should I not remove it?

Is it holding the inner liner?

I also only plan on Auto X 1-2 times a year just for fun. So setup does not have to be perfect, just has to not rub when cornering hard.

Found the screw :) do you take it out and put it back after shaving or just take it out all together?

An 18x8 ET35 wheel with 235 should not rub if you have the car properly aligned. Did you get an alignment done after you lowered it? If not, this is the first thing you need to do. Do not start rolling fenders or taking off the liner. I'm running a wider wheel (8.5") and ET32 at the exact same height in the front and don't rub at all.

At 25.5 front, you should automatically be at -1.3 camber. Camber on these cars is not adjustable...it automatically increases as you lower the car. -1.3 camber is the factory spec for the RS4 BTW. I run that on all four corners.

Re: Tires rubbing need some helps

yup, I am not rolling fenders or anything :) just took off the plastic tab on the screw you saw in the pic. I got the car aligned after lowering and have a -1.3 camber :)... It drives perfectly now. I also put the screw back, I am thinking maybe this was added to the B7 at some point because some seem to not have it, or maybe their tuner already removed. Much thanks again.
