It's official - rod through the block
looking to stay 1.8L, rods are apparently a must on my setup , pistons would be nice, but I'm working on a budget since i just blew 1200 on ANOTHER clutch setup seeing as how my AWE wasn't quite cutting it... (spun the clutch clear through 3rd gear while rowing like a maniac after a launch trying to catch it.. then barely grabbed 4th after totally lifting off the throttle)
the damage i could see from the outside (through the fist sized hole in my engine, and the half-dollar sized one in my oil pan) indicates that my crankshaft is toast (sheared metal off the side), the rod is nowhere to be found, and there's probably some damage to the cylinder wall (sarcasm..)
anyways, i need an engine ASAP - I don't care if it's an AEB or w/e, just needs to be a 1.8 out of an audi of some sort. you guys know the drill. still gotta talk to the guys around here and see what's best as far as putting the bottom end together goes, and about how cheap i can keep this. If I can't keep the bill on a built engine low enough i may be forced to revert to stock or go with a less-aggressive program... (boooooo)
sad part is that there were no preliminary signs (even looking back on it) that anything was wrong. the only indication that anything bad was about to happen was a slight hesitation i got pulling onto the highway in 4th gear... put it in 5th - hit boost - then BOOM... lots of smoke, huge oil spray on the highway, low oil light, and oh yeah -- satan punched a hole in my block.

im really frustrated, but eager to get it back together... I guess the only thing still bothering me is WHY the motor blew like it did. My best guess is either i snapped the rod outright or i spun a bearing which led to a bent/snapped rod. Oil was fine (a good 3 quarts is on the highway killing a hippie as we speak) it was boosting normally (until that 4th gear pull to 5500) and the only funny noise it was making was an exhaust leak at the mani-to-head gasket which i doubt would cause a blown motor....
any help is greatly appreciated, im done ranting now.
