    Help! Complete ignition failure.

Driving on highway at 60mph, my RS6's entire electrical system shut down. All my gauges, RPM, Speedometer, oil gauges, etc., all are stuck as it was when it shut down. None of the electrical system work. It's a complete shut down. Any ideas of what it could be?

Meanwhile, the car is at a local Audi service, Town Audi...

    Re: Help! Complete ignition failure.

My money is on an ECU failure.

If the ECU dies, it will completely stop all flow of power/data to the various subsystems.

Were you able to crank the motor after this failure?

The battery feeds the #30 power terminal under the dash.
#30 feeds the ECU power supply relay and in result feeds the ECU it's power.

If the battery is working, the car should still crank over. If it can crank over, that means that either the ECU's power relay is zapped or the ECU is zapped.

If the car won't crank, the battery is suspect. One could blame the transmission's shift lock but, you wouldn't loose the instruments if that failed, just the starter.
