Ok, i could look all this up and jot stuff down in my 'where in the world is Carmen San Diego detectives notebook' but i KNOW you guys like to show your AUTOBALLZ off with your extreme knowledge of the platforms so i am posing a question. I 'think' the usp is only a version of the a4 with no performance mods but what are the main differences of each. I know faster stronger bigger brighter sexier but what are those differences? Engine sizes? Interior excitement? I am asking about b6 rs4's and s4's but if you want to get into the B7 and B8 stuff then be my guest. FLEX THE AUTOBALLZ and tell me all you know. Yes, this is a vague as hell post but i am thinking of purchasing something nice in this time of recession like a good american would... :( as we all know HOW AWESOME THE RECORD INDUSTRY IS RIGHT NOW! YEAH! again, :(. Correct me if i am wrong but was there no s4 or rs4 for b6 or was it b7? i thought i had read that somewhere.

Opening up a big can crazy and sounding like a 1 ring noob superstar,

    Re: A4, Usp, S4, Rs4

B6 A4 and USP are the same car all differences between the two are cosmetic. 2 motors available 1.8turbo and 3.0 V6

    B6 S4 is a 4.2L V8 powerhouse, same with the B7. 340hp i believe

    B6 RS4's were not available stateside...were they even available over the pond? B7 RS4 is also a 4.2L V8 with 400hp i believe.

someone can correct what ever i fugged up

    Re: A4, Usp, S4, Rs4

There was no B6 RS4, only on B7's and it has 420hp.
1.8t USP or not was available with frontrak 5 speed manual or Multitronic (later 6-speed came) Quattro was a 5 speed tiptronic or a 5 or 6 speed manual
3.0 USP or not was available for the first few years with frontrak and multitronic and quattro with tiptronic and 6-speed
B6 S4 came with a 4.2 V8 with 340hp and quattro with either tiptronic or six speed
^^^all were available in Avant (quattro only though) or sedan

1.8t got either grey/black fiberglass or patterned aluminum
3.0 got vavona wood or burl wood
S4 got carbon fibre or grey birch i believe

I have the brochures for B6 A4 years if you want to know anything in particular such as option packages or color combinations etc.

    Re: A4, Usp, S4, Rs4

Awesome, thank you guys; I think i just started the official history of the modern audi thread. Pete is that you or the stig as your icon? I just watched the Bugatti clip of them outside Nuremberg. Awesome.

I knew there was an s4 or rs4 that they had skipped a gen on. Sometimes i get the rs4 and rs6 information mixed up too though so that rules :(. Is the B7 rs4 he one with the Lamborghini 'styled' engine or is it a turbo version of the S's V8? There was a B5 RS4 though right? I mean that was the 1st RS4. Again, i am wondering if confusion is getting the better of me. Thanks for everything guys i should now see what changed besides body design from version to version, post in the RS and S sections would be helpful too i am gathering ;). Again, thanks for the history lessons I appreciate it and will continue my quest to find the ultimate driving machine killer.... kidding.

    Re: A4, Usp, S4, Rs4

haha that is most definitely the STIG as my avatar (or am I the STIG...some say...)

Yes there was a B5 RS4 that was Avant only and sold only in europe it had a heavily modified version of the 2.7 twin turbo six cylinder and about 350hp. They then skipped the B6 RS4 but made a B7 RS4 that used a naturally aspirated 4.2 V8 that was a heavily modified with FSI etc. version of the V8 used in the S4.

Only the Audis with the V-10 are based loosely on the Lamborghini V-10 used in the gallardo but for the most part they have little in common and are used on the S6 and S8.

The RS6 will use a similar V-10 to the S6 with the addition of two turbochargers and a few other high tech features that makes it produces 580hp about!

I'd like to hear more about the suspension differences. I know from the A4 sport to S4 suspension its basically the same with higher spring rates , but the RS4 has a wider track. Is their a difference in the RS4's front or rear suspension set-up. We all know the rear sway bar is bigger and I the center diff is more rear biased. Are the suspension components lighter for the RS4?

I love the stig and even his fat american cousin ;). That one killed me when he stepped out of the trailer and looked like 2 stigs in one tight white jumper. If you ARE IN FACT the stig, i would like to pay you for driving lessons 5 times a week at willow for 6 months straight.... imagine that, stig's driving school. I don't think you can teach what he does. Some say....

Thanks so much for the info, i really do appreciate it and am amazed at your spec knowledge. It's pretty cool how many different versions for what could be considered the same platform. I would like a wagon with a v10, that sounds ridiculous to say the least but it will be way over a 100k i am assuming.... I guess i could live in it.

Have you ever been to a place called Ace's Basement in Greensboro? I have, it was crazy... Super crazy. Again, thanks for the great info.

    Cheers,

Hahaha...I am not the STIG but I am crazy about the show! Did you see African STIG? That episode was funny as hell! I get all the full length british ones from Finalgear.com FYI!

The RS6 is coming to the US only as a Sedan and will probably be about $90k. Last I heard my dealer has already taken at least 2 orders for them!

Haha why yes I have been to Ace's Basement! It was one of the more sketchy places I have been very crazy and very loud! The greene street club is a good place to see bands and stuff it's in downtown greensboro though.

As for the question Manhertm posted I'm not as familar with the suspension I would assume that the RS4 has different spring rates and a different setup to deal with the extra weight and forces put on it. The rear wheels get about 60% of the power which helps to offset the nose heaviness of the car. The sway bars are thicker especially the front sway.

There was never a 5 speed USP. As a matter of fact, it is important to note the USP did not exist until 2004 when 6 speed became available on the 1.8T.

Differences in A4 and USP are sport suspension, front and rear bumpers, door blades, air leather steering wheel and shift knob, aluminium trim, ebony black leather interiors, and front upper stress bar.

Everything else you said is pretty accurate

On FWD USP's some of the early ones did actually have a 5-speed not that common though.
    Example!

Also this is kinda unrelated but all 1.8t's have leather inserts not actual full leather interiors only the seat centers, steering wheel, and shift knob were real leather. (except in 2002 when 1.8t's had all leatherette seats)
