Laser star jammer/parking sensor install. let me know waht you think!

here are a few pics of my install.
cut a big ass hole in grill.

    jammer in big ass hole.

    from the back

put the controll box on the back of the fuse box.

running the cable from the head to the controll box, used a grommet that my amp power wire goes through.

i mounted the speaker led and mute button in the fuse box, i mave move them later on but it works fine for now.

everything connected and mounted under the dash.

    grill shots.

i am in no way affiliated with laser star, havent really tested it but i will on wednesday or friday. it does have a parking rage sensor built into it too :) i still need to figure out waht i want to do with the on off switch also, i was going to use my rear fog light but its a ground loop switch so it wont work :(, so i just have it sitting in my gauge cluster for now. let me know waht you guys think of the install.....

Pretty sweet. Nice idea with mounting the sensor in the ring. I wish jammers were legal here in MN. I have a V-1 but still got a $260 ticket a couple months ago from some trooper shooting laser.

You will need it for I-5 and 405 near Bothell. You might check to make sure the sensor in the grill is level to ensure its accurate.

Aaron, was yours a laser star also?

I'm VERY interested in how it performs, not that I'll ever buy one.

I'm waiting for the 2008 GOL tests, but regardless I'll probably be getting an LI.

Sweet install, I never even thought about installing the head in one of the rings, nice work!

Where did you put your head ExSRAaron? I'm not sure where to put the single head when I get mine?

It jams the laser signal from a police laser/speed gun. It's not the same as radar at all it's more accurate and they have to point the beam directly at one vehicle, while radar can be pulled and read multiple vehicles passing through the signal.

The laser star is also a parking sensor which works very well and had 4 different programmable distances from like 2 feet all the way to like 20 feet depending on the size object. The laser star is designed in the UK were laser jammers are illegal but parking sensors are legal and that is how they get away with selling it in the UK.

I was referred to these sites that sell the laser star

Good stuff, definitely very interested since, I am wondering if a single head will preform well on our B5's. Leveling is definitely key, but it sounds like you got it leveled pretty well.

they said it would have been better under the bumper because its more center of mass but i has already cut up my grill and i wanted to try to hide the head as much as possible.

Yeah I got sponsored by laser star and they sent me a single head "parking sensor" I mounted the head right under the license plate mounting holes in the grill. It looks like it came that way stock, i love it! I mounted all the switches in the plastic trim next to the shifter, for easy of viewing and for the best chance of me hearing it. ill post some pics up if no one minds...

Looks good and very inconspicuous, JaVa.

You could buy a FUNK button and rig the jammer up to it.

We will see how it will do on Wed. though.....its nice that your getting it tested.

I hope it does alright, although obviously two heads would preform better.

i have been talking to the local rep alot, he thinks it should be fine to about 200 feet from the gun, so that shouyld give me plenty of time to slow donw, if not i kinda deserve the ticket :(, i can always add another head later, i want one more for the fron and one for the back too.

Hmm, $75 to save me from tickets as much as $325. Im really interested to see how well this works out for you. Might have to shoot them an e-mail. Do you know if this thing picks up regular radar as well?

Nope this only deals with laser, you'll need a radar detector to be protected from radar and laser.

    Re: Laser Jammer Install

At 1000 feet the laser beam is 3 foot square which makes it much more accurate than a radar gun.

These jammers still won't help with Vascar. I got a ticket via Vascar 8 years ago and there is nothing that can be done to detect or stop it. That is why police love it so much.

    Re: Laser Jammer Install

Vascar isn't much to worry about for a few reason. They take a bit more to set up, it's not as simple as sitting in your car with a radar gun/lidar and going after the speeder. They take your average speed, so people have time to slow down once you spot one (which is usually easy to do), and often times they are done via helicopters to make it easier, but the problem with that is many states require officers to show the offender the speed he's accused of doing while pulled over. They're just so uncommon that it's not much to worry about.

A good laser jammer (Laser Interceptor, Laser Park Pro, Anti Laser) and a good radar detector (Valentine 1, Passports) and you'll be good to go 99% of the time if correctly installed and you use your head (like making sure you're not being paced, slowing down once your detector goes off, etc..).

I'm very anxious for some independent testing of Laser Star because there is a lot of controversy with this company, because they have a relation to a know scammer, they employ un-sportmenship like conduct such as openly talking shit about other companies, signing up on a bunch of forums pretending to be random people with no affiliation, then promote the product, creating a fake/biased testing group to give them good ratings, say stuff like "the best selling" without any proof (and which is complete bullshit imo).

If anyone who's been on this forum for a long time and has credibility, posts good results, I may be convinced this is a good product, but I still would never buy from this company. There are plenty of proven companies, with excellent customer service who know how to properly run a business.

This is EXACTLY why i optied to get sponsored instead of outright buying one. its so hard to find a respectable review on things these days I'm kinda new to this forum, but I'm a member of a ton of others with positive feedback (600rr.net, ohioriders.net, rx7club, 3si.org, etc) As soon as i get a chance to test this i was give a very indepth review of it.

I've been lazy this weekend, so pics should be up tonight lol..

I agree with that completely ExSRAaron, it is a great way to try the system at a relatively low cost. Then if you like it you can always add another head or something. If you test it yourself, thats the only surefire way to know it works.

Looking forward to seeing those pics

    Re: Laser Jammer Install

Also...we should know more after JaVa gets his setup tested!

It would be interesting to see the results from different mounting positions on the front of the car as well.

    Re: Laser Jammer Install

Thanks for the plate comparison, I was wondering how that looked.

Just makes the plate look a little dirty, and probably does cut down on the IR reflectivity a little.

BTW ExSRAaron, where are those pics at? lol
