    Buying 00 S4...Few questions...

    Hey guys,
Im purchasing a 2000 s4 this week. The car seems to be in great shape.I am a subaru mechanic.I went over the basics on the car.The car is a Tip and has 107k on it.He recently had the t-belt service, tbb, all brakes, tires, all wheel bearings, new battery done. The car seems like it does not need any other work at the moment. However i am concerned like everyone that the turbos will need replacing. When he had the t-belt service done(by yarrowsport in RI)He said that they said they were in great shape???Are all the turbo's gonna go eventually if the oil was changed and not beaten on?Also the car does have a few dead pixels in the cluster.Im pretty anal about cars and that bothers me.Does anyone know the fix for this?Possibly a link to the parts? He also told me.The original owner was an older lady, second owner was a audi tech, and he is the third owner. So i believe it has been well maintained. The price im getting it also seems decent $7800.Thank You

There's no way to tell about the turbos, as they can go at any time with no warning. Hopefully yours will last. As for the pixels, don't worry about them. You may as well just turn the display off because none of the info it tells you is accurate, unless you really care about which door is open or what radio station you're on.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. There is no fix for the dead pixels in the cluster besides replacing the instrument cluster $ as far as I know. Will the turbos last? That is like predicting next weeks lotto numbers. Many things could kill a turbo even if the car is stock and driven by an old lady. You are a mechanic, if spending $2500 for a new set of Ko4 upgraded turbos doesn't really bother you and spending a day or two installing them, then you have nothing to worry about. Honestly, you should buy a wrx. You work at subaru, it will be a lot easier/cheaper for you to get parts if something breaks. Good luck either way.

2500 does not bother me for a set of k04's.However i thought the kit was like 8k or something crazy.

As for the wrx comment.I have owned a 06 sti.Subaru is my job.The cars are like toyota's and hyundai's to me.There completley boring.I enjoy my 92 jetta gl more then the sti i had.I really could care less about performance. The s4 is for me and my wife.It will not be a daily driver, but a weekend car.Anyone have any idea how much a cluster will cost you? Also if anyone has any info on the ko4 upgrade....What is needed to run these properly? Can i do it without the apr stage 3 kit for 8k?Thank You

you can do stage 3-, which is the k04s, a 5 bar FPR and an MBC with stg 3- programming, or for full stage 3 you need a fueling kit. its easiest to source the aprts seperately i feel though (much cheaper too)
