Odd metal on metal sound when turning right???

Just like the title says... Odd metal on metal sound (like a stationary sander to a metal pipe at low rpm) when making an aggressive (just pushing it enough to load up the front left tire) right turn. Does not make a sound when taking an aggressive left turn or when taking an easy right turn. I have a 99 Avant 1.8 w/ stock sport and 78K miles. I jacked the car up to take a look under the front of the car and saw nothing loose or signs of something rubbing. All the boots and control arms looked good. Kept the wheel on the car and jacked it up and shook the wheel grabbing the 9 and 3 position and the 12 and 6 and no real movement. My car is an Avant and road noise seems about normal. Wheel bearing??? Shocks are worn but what else can I check?

Is it kind of clicking or clunking?, or is it a continual scrape? Err, does it seem rotational...

It is definitely more of a continual scraping/rotational sound. I've had CV joints go bad on other cars (VW's Mk1 and Mk2) and this is not a clicking or clunking sound at all. Thanks for the help...

I'd say pull the wheel, check the 17mm bolts that hold on the carriers and make sure they are good and tight.

Make sure the pads are seated properly

Make sure suspension bolts are tight

Put wheel back on (torque to 75 ft lbs)

Verify your power steering fluid level (Engine bay, drivers side of car, green lid)

A wheel bearing would be more of a hum, and you'd hear it all te time, and it'd go away when you took load away from that corner.

I suspect it might be something in the steering. Maybe low fluid...

I am going to replace them with some of the newer heavy duty tie rod ends next weekend. I think they are worn and have some, some play when I jack the car up and shake the wheel holding on to the 9 and 3 o'clock position. What do you mean by seized???

Double check your exhaust too. I had this and it was my exhaust rubbing on something underneath my car since a hangar broke.
