alcantara shift boots...anyone interested? -UPDATED!

i want to do an alcantara shift boot in my car but cant find it available in any length less than 3 yards. if i made a couple extras out of the extra material would anyone be interested? im thinking of doing a dark grey color with my black interior. like charcoal kind of. ide probably say around $30-35 shipped per boot. but remember its just the boot. you have to attach it to the base/knob yourself.

or if anyone knows of a website i can buy a premade alcantara shift boot, or even 1 yard of material...let me know!

I can talk to the upholsterer that's doing my headliner and see if he can sell us small pieces of Alcantara, or if he can even just make us shift boots for pretty cheap. I have a spare shifter around here somewhere that I can give him for the pattern.

I am in the UK, but on a US military base. Which means I have access to the US Post Office on base. So no shipping issues as far as crazy costs. And I'm sure if I give the guy my spare shift boot, he can whip something up with some scraps he has left around the shop. The trick would be to match colors with what some people already have in their cars.

side note(i randomly take off my shift boot while i drive and throw it at my friends in the back seat and drive with only the metal short shift rod, it scares people but i find nothing wrong with it)

I doubt very much that he is selling actual Alcantara or Toray Ultrasuede. Seems to be much too cheap. I would guess that this is just a cheap microseude. In any case, it might not be a bad material. I wish I could get the sample book for Alcantara and take it to GTI International in a couple weeks. Then I could tell you exactly which color numbers from Alcantara match what interiors, including the stock Audi Alcantaras. Believe me, there are a lot of shades and it's not as easy to match as you think. I will definitely ask Lee about making me one the next time we talk about my headliner and then I'll get some more info on what it would cost, lead time, colors available, stitching options, etc.

i agree, the ebay stuff doesnt look like quality material.

sandspeed, deffinatly look into getting the boots made and let us know how much it would cost. i have to call a place tomorow to see how much they sell it for. im 95% sure whatever i end up doing (buying or making) its going to be charcoal grey.

UPDATE!!

i picked up a piece of charcoal grey alcantara 1yardx1yard. this piece is bigger than i thought it was going to be. i am estimating about 3-4 shift boots out of it (assuming i dont fuck up the first time). this material looks great against my black interior and cant wait to get my shiftknob so i can do it up!!

i most likely i will be charging $35shipped per extra boot i have(possibly cheaper depending just how easy this ends up being). i will not be using the stock knob but will do my best to make a writeup to show you how to attach everything(once i figure it out of course ). i am just waiting for my b5s4 knob to come in the mail before starting this.

since i am not sure exactly how many boots i will get out of this piece, ill will be going from THIS POST DOWN in that order. once the extra boots are gone, theyre gone. if you dont get back to me in a reasonable time (by the next day) i will move to the next person who is interested. so POST NOW IF YOU WANTTO GET IN LINE!

pictures yayyyy! looks amay-za-zing imo. and fyi, if you want the crease where i sewed it together facing the dash, just install the boot in reverse.

and guys, keep in mind that i am doing this on my free time. that boot took me about an hour and a half or so to make. that includes removal of everything from my car and unstiching my stock boot as a guide and whatnot. im guessing now it will take me about 30-45mins per boot to make. not too hard, just time consuming. im going to do a write up of how to install it and ill post it at a later time. $35 shipped is the price. slot #7 starts below this post.

i have no idea how to do that. come on, im a 21 year old male. lol...the way i stitch it is by folding it over so that the inside of the boot is facing up, then i sew up along the line i made when i traced it. that way when you flip it inside out, you see no stitching at all...its just a seam. ill try to get a picture.

hopefully ill have these all done and ready to ship by the end of the week. as of now ive got 9 more patterns to cut out then start the stitching.

unless the alcantra would be stitched into the actual steering wheel, i think it would look retarded with just an alcantra steering wheel cover...but maybe thats just me
