    Re: Does anyone know why...

My best guess is that 90% of the people driving the car (general population) don't understand the fluctuations in oil temp/pressure and thought there were problems with the car. Instead, we just get an 'idoit light' when something is actually out of spec...which by then, is probably too late...

    Re: Does anyone know why...

this is one of the biggest things that i miss about my B5. i loved knowing what temp my oil was at.

    but still,

knowing oil pressure > knowing oil temp

    Re: Does anyone know why...

It wasn't very accurate. Just like the water temp gauge, it's kinda made not to "scare" the driver and it tends to stay in the safe zone, unless there is a major problem.

    Re: Does anyone know why...

mine was pretty accurate. at least from what i could tell.

it never just stayed in the "safe zone" as you put it. if i was beating on my car, i could see the temp rise a bit. and then settle back down. and in the winter coming down from the moutain just coasting at 60mph in 10 degree temps, the guage would go all the way cold. same with my coolant. the car could just not stay warm, even at the 3,000 rpms.

my guess, would be that it just wasn't a utilized guage for the general population. and the more guages there are, the more cluttered the car is.
