WTF... Low Washer Fluid Indicator Lamp/Light Won't Turn Off

I am working out a few kinks in my methanol setup currently and I ran into an annoying issue. I pulled the headlight washer pump so that I could use the pre-existing bung for my methanol pump line and now my low fluid indicator lamp is lit all the time.

I was under the impression that the bottom windshield washer pump was the one that determined if the fluid was low which is why I kept it there. Is there any way around having to tap an additional hole in the tank for my methanol pump?

I already tried to run the check function on the dash to see if that cleared it but it did not. I also do not want to circumvent the low fluid indicator as shown in http://www.audigeeks.com/forums/index.php?topic=862.0 . The reason I put it into that tank was so I would have the low fluid indicator.

It is not the pumps that determine level... There is a sensor on the bottle... All you have to do is short out that wire harness that you pulled off... There should have been three total... Two for the pumps and one on the bottle itself... Just take a wire and jump the connectors...

dude wtf...lol thats wierd. If you plug everything back in does the fluid warning go away? It might just be easier to tap a hole in the tank. Good thing you are figuring out all this before i have to do it. lol

I realize I can just short it out but I do not want to do that. I found a write up on that already but I like having the warning light since I want to know if I am running low on methanol while I am running advanced timing.

lol, thanks. I'm the guinea pig for this one :-). I'm going to plug everything back in tonight to see what happens and if that works then I am just going to tap a new hole. BTW, where did you buy the Goop stuff that Snow recommends? Might need to pick some up if I need to tap another hole in the tank.

Sounds like the sensor isn't happy. Check to see if you can make it work otherwise you may have to replace the sensor. You can vag-com the cluster to kill the light but that isn't what you're going for here.

I don't think GOOP will do it. My old tank was cracked and I tried superglue, epoxies, loctite surface insensitive adhesive, and goop and they just peeled right off after curing. The tanks are made of slippery stuff.

you can get goop at ace hardware. Just rough up the surface with sand paper nd clean it well acetone. I used goop on my throttle body boot and it resists the meth pretty well and holds boost just fine at 27psi.

I did that. Didn't work. The tank is something impervious to normal methods. I even tried etching it and sprayed some plastic primer and a couple hours later it peeled off. I don't know if Dupont played a roll in the development but it is better than Teflon.

Not thick enough to tap. He could drill a hole and use a couple o-rings. Or just replace the sensor.

Do you know where this sensor is located? Is it integrated with one of the pumps or something? I currently have the headlight washer pump pulled and that is where the meth pump is pulling from.

Yeah I don't think I will have too much trouble if I need to tap the hole since I can control the size of the hole and I can also use the goop as a just in case measure. I would really prefer not to tap another hole if I can just use the hole for the headlight washers since I don't really like having them anyway.

Goop won't stick. Even superglue peeled off after curing and that stuff etches it's way in.

If I remember correctly the headlight pump recess is towards the front on the bottom, the washer pump faces towards the engine or wheel and is a bit higher and the sensor is above that. You'll probably have to pull the fenderliner to get at it. I had to put that tank in and out a dozen times trying to seal a crack before finally just getting a new one.

Ok, this is just weird. I left work early today and made my way over to the dealership and bought the fluid sensor then went to go get some gas. The light was on the whole way then I started my car after I fueled up and poof... the low fluid indicator lamp magically turned off.

I'm going to hold on the the sensor for a little bit just in case and also keep an eye on the fluid level to make sure I don't run out.

This one is still a mystery to me.
