So i'm driving and I start to hear a slapping noise in my wheelwell. I pulled over to try to see what the hell it was. couldn't see anything because it was so dark out. Well roadside is picking me up in the morning so I'll know more tomorrow. Can't wait to see what the hell it is. At first I thought I had a blowout but tires are fine. Thank god for cpo and a free tow.

I thought it was the axle for a second. sounded like the wheel was ready to fall right off the car. from what I could see with the flashlight, the cv boot is fine and no grease anywhere. only made the noise over 15 mph going straight and got progressively louder and faster as I drove faster. I just nursed it to a friends house and parked it. gotta drive my truck tomorrow. damn gas prices, I barely movethat thing. gives me a reason to drive it I guess.

    Re: Roadside to the rescue

I have a feeling that's what it is. if so, the thing is chewed up and needs to be replaced. if they charge an arm and a leg, the don't do it and I take my car back. but I noticed what looked like a hard line for something that looked pinched and snapped off. don't know what it was to because this happened at 10pm. too damn dark to inspect on the side of the road. I'll just let them look at everything and go from there. Should only be 50 bux out of pocket. anymore and i'll insert a foot in someone's ass and take my car back to fix it myself.

    Re: Roadside to the rescue

So the tow truck was late this morning. While I was waiting outside my friend's house for the guy to arrive, two cops pull up and start questioning me. The neighbor nextdoor doesn't like my friend's too much I guess. So they figured they would call the cops once again. Turns out when I reregistered my car a few days ago, I got new plates that go towards Shore conservation. Well they cancelled my old plates that are still on the car and I haven't received my new ones yet. So I had to talk my way outta that one. Thankfully I have receipts and the car was being towed anyway. What a pain in the balls . Car's at the dealer now and from what I could see this morning, nothing seemed to be hanging from the fender liner. Who knows what the hell is causing the noise.

    Re: Roadside to the rescue

Bad news... The steelbelt on the inside portion of the tire came out and was slapping the shit out of the fuel vapor line. The hardline is snapped in half and needs to be replaced.. Out of warranty due to the tire causing the damage. $719!!!! I'm trying to find out if there is anywhere I can get that part other than audi and have a mechanic do it. 719 hurts my ass just a little bit.

Re: Help!!!! Bad news with the cpo. See reply 9 for details Roadside to the rescue

The tires I got with the car last year. Still have enough tread on them. The front tires were low on air and the steel belt came out of the inner sidewall. That's why I couldn't see it last night. I knew my tires looked a little low but not that low. I have dunlops on the car. They are quality, they just saw their limits of under inflated use. But this vapor line runs the length of the car and returns to the engine bay near the wheelwell. (that's what the service dept says.) They could be feeding me a line of shit to sell me the most expensive line they have. I haven't learned enough about the a4 to know exactly what the line goes to and not enough time to look at it this morning before they towed it. I'm wondering if I put the spare on it and drive it home an park it. If this broken line will be ok until I get the part myself. I really don't feel like doing the job myself but audi is charging a rediculous amount of money. where's oldguy with his rediculous amount of knowledge when you need him. lol.

I'm on www.genuineaudiparts.com now but don't see anything. Is there an online shop manual that will list parts by picture and their part number? There was one on the forum I was on with my old car.

I had this happen to me with the original Dunlops that came with my car. POS tires if I do say so myself. Luckily I replaced them right when the steel bead was starting to show its ugly head.

Re: Help!!!! Bad news with the cpo. See reply 9 for details Roadside to the rescue

I've had dunlops on most of my cars and have had really good luck with them. I just think these had seen better days. My father is in the tire business and when I brought the car around for him to see, he didn't think there was much treadlife left in them since they were z rated performanc tires. They don't last as long as the all seasons do. Eitherway. I still need to figure out the vapor line dilema. I'm going to audi later to pick up the car and put on the spare and either drive it to a local mechanic or bring it home til i figure out what to do.

They should be able to give you the part # of what needs to be replaced on the inspection and estimate invoice, at least my dealer does... GL with the repair and not having to pay an arm and a leg for it..

Re: Help!!!! Bad news with the cpo. See reply 9 for details Roadside to the rescue

my right blew at 75mph, took out the entire wheel well plastic and the hose that goes from the N80 to the return line. you know you can rig something up yourself since if it is this line its purely for the vac pump in the back to suck N80 crap back.

i paid $60 for the broken soft line from N80 that goes to the hard line. In all honesty i could have rolled my own and it would have been fine. But my N80 failed a few days after due to ingestion of the check valve in front of it. so i was trying to rule out the obvious.

I never got to putting on the spare wheel well (plastic) since it looks to be a pain.
Car ran fine but just threw evap leak secondary air CEL.

what i would do is go buy a short section of that black pvc tubing that has the inside diameter of the same size as the outside diameter of that line and cut the old lines back a little from where they were broken like an inch or so from the damage, and slip that new line over top of the broken line with a little of the the adhesive designed for that tubing, i forget the name... then just re attach that line to the fender well it will work fine... have done and seen it done before.. goodluck, pm me if you have any questions

Thanks guys for the info. I got the car to a mechanic that services all types of euros and they said they'd cut the line and fabricate a section for dirt cheap. replacing all for tires. luckily I get tires wholesale. hopefully i'll have it back tomorrow.

Started a 5 mile trek back to my truck from the mechanic since I was tired of waiting for my boy to come pick me up. had a sick white b6 with a full reiger kit and unpainted blades pass me. had maryland plates on it. probably a monmouth university student. and lots of beeps from college girls driving by. either I still got it in me or the girls like f'n with the old ass walking on the side of the road. lol.

yah the patch held up until the n80 failed. i think it was several (1 week?) after i patched it the n80 failed. you could say coincidence but the markers (mushy brakes, hard starts) were there before the assplosion at 75mph (you know i ended on the offramp that those bus dudes did the dukes of hazzard). called HERO (kid and wife in car). my hands would have been roast if i had to remove the amount of wire wrapped around the hub. i was suprised the brake line was not compromised.

but yeah that is plastic hard line. its harder than brake line, almost like what those cheap kid swimming pools are made out of. but it really doesn't matter since the car doesn't flow much (Vapor) at all.

took them 2 hours to find the vapor line (plastic part) they had to take apart a newer car because the page was missing in ETKA and find a newer B6 that the part # wasn't rubbed off lol. they wanted to give up about 10 times.

i made them finally get a newer b6 off their lot and put it on a rack and take hose off to read the #.

i will say they did go above and beyond but i did have to scream at everyone.

I have had a few heated discussions with the audi service department in the past. This is the first car i've had to deal with dealerships. Every car I've owned I've worked on and customized on my own or w friends. only because this thing is certified do I even consider it and so far the cpo has done nothing for me.

Re: Help!!!! Bad news with the cpo. See reply 9 for details Roadside to the rescue

At 10 oclock at night, I couldn't see what was wrong, just heard noise. The tires were still holding air and the steel belt was sticking out of the back of the tire and I couldn't see it in the low light. I towed the car with roadside assistance and was hoping it would be something under warranty. I titled it that just because it is the second time now I've had the car sent to audi thinking it would be something under warranty and find out it wasn't covered. I wouldn't expect the tires to be, but if I realized it was the tires that caused the problem, I would never have taken the car there. Last time I had it towed it was the damn battery. But the way the car was acting and where it happened I just towed it in thinking it was the alternator. They wacked me 280 for a battery I could have gotten for 90 bucks and done the job myself. Nothing covered under warrany will happen to the car until the cpo runs out. Murphy's law.
