Basic B20 motor. You should be able to swap motors from another CRV without any issues. I doubt your father is a performance freak and would like to keep it stock, So I suggest scour the yards for a B20 long block.
Its an easy swap. Disconnect all the lines, empty out the anti freeze, take out the axles, drop the 4 mounts. Slide up, swap over harnesses and other parts, Slide down. Bolt back up and done.
You could probably sell the short block to some B20vtec freak on the honda forums for extra change after the fact.
