    maybe a dumb MAF question

if im throwing a MAF code and the car runs like shit can i just drop the new sensor in and it will be good? do i need to unplug the battery or clear the codes or anything specific? the reason i asked was i bought a sensor because of the code and hesitation i was getting. i installed the new one and went to hammer it and it did the same thing. i didnt have my VAG to clear the codes. i can see maybe not clearing the codes making a difference but someone said to unplug the battery. i cant see that making a difference but who knows at this point lol. also EPL said to cut holes in my airbox, that could be my problem but why and the hell would the car run strong one day and then not the next if that was an issue? any advice is appreciated at this point.

Clear the codes with VAG and see what happens.

Make sure you have the Oring inbetween the MAF and the airbox and make sure they didnt send you a 90mm MAF instead of an 85mm one.

When i changed my maf, the cel came off on the next start up. Didn't have to unplug the battery or anything. But, i was driving with the bad maf plugged out for a while prior to changing it. Don't know if that made a difference at all.
