"Some of the obsessively anal detailing has gone..."

this is the absolute worst news about the new audis, and something i noticed when i checked out the s5. audi is still the interior leader by a huge margin, but the ergonomic and tactile perfection of the b6/b7 cabin has unfortunately taken a step down.

as far as the bitching about the handling, i've addressed it so many times my head hurts: it will NEVER change. Audi isn't rear wheel drive. I've said it far more eloquently before, but i don't feel like searching for that previous post...maybe i'll do it later.

    it's the same old story.

it's never gonna change: if people are looking for rear wheel drive the audi ain't it...never will be. it's not the spirit of audi to make an oversteering, unleashed machine. those admiring the rear-wheel driving dynamics will always tip in favor of the bmw. This will NEVER CHANGE.

Audi has a different mentality, and always will: creating more power under more control. That's it, and i will ALWAYS prefer it, because of what I look for in a car.

Audi has and likely will always have more style than BMW could ever have because BMW doesn't focus on the "goodies" like $6000 sound systems. as an audiophile, this gets a for me. I appreciate the COMPLETE package, and like always, nothing comes close to Audi in delivering this.

Seeing an infiniti compete with the germans is just silly.

    Give me the S5...no contest.

Agreed. To me Audi shines in Quattro, FSI, Turbo and Diesel technologies. I've been looking forward to the B8 and have been thinking about making the 3.0 TDI my first diesel. This review is the first I read and it's not very flattering. At the end of the day, it's just an opinion and I'll have to test drive one myself before I render my decision.

wow that is a enormously ignorant, biased, pointless review.

BTW Nissan/Infiniti's GT-R already completely crushes the R8 at 30k less, and the GT-R V spec currently being worked on would most likely toss the R8 the beating of it's overpriced life.

And I am not a Nissan fan boy and don't have anything against Audi, in fact I am looking to get the new B8 (which is why I am on these forums in the first place), I just thought your comment about Infiniti not being able to compete with the "Germans" was quite blindingly ignorant.

Re: Oh no, say it isn't so...

The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking that wrightup is pure BS. I read another review today on the new 2.0TFSI and it was more along the lines of what I'm expecting based on what I saw at the auto show and what an Audi-head would expect. The problem with the auto show is that they had the cars ropped-off and up on display platforms so I couldn't get close enough. As I said before, I'll have to test drive one and judge for myself.

I for one can't wait to see this car in person. It needs some suspension mods to tighten it up, just as with the B6, but this motor just makes me drool. 0-60 in 6 and 40+ mpg? Yea... I want it.

Re: Oh no, say it isn't so...

the much more powerful 35d engine seen over here in Europe on the 535d and 335d from BMW, is much better than the 3.0 TDI (my dad has a 3.0 TDI, a friend of mine has a 535d)...

A remapped 535d gets around 350hp and 750nm torque, has a 9-10 l/100km diesel consumption while my dads 3.0 tdi can only get to 260-270hp and 540 nm torque, while averaging 11-12.5 l/100 kms...

Lastly, the 3.0 TDI is still a great engine, but make no mistake (I know most americans are crazy about getting diesel engines), a gas 3.2 or 4.2, is WAYYYY better...

Overpriced? there is NO car on the market that can compete with the TOTAL package the R8 offers. The compination of its performance, looks, interior quality/comfort, amenities, driving experience/comfort/pleasure, and "wow" factor.. are unmatched. yes there are faster cars, more exotic looking cars, and autos with "more luxurious" interiors (debateable)..but none come together like in the R8... anyone whose actually been in one/driven one will not hesitate to agree...

    I don't follow.

Very few production cars are in the same conversation in terms of racetrack performance, with the $150,000 Ford being the cheapest competitor.

The interior brings a lot of information to the driver and isn't missing any of today's must-have luxury features.

It even has a Bose audio system with two 9 inch subs.

I'm as enamored by R8 as the next guy, but the GT-R is far from a one trick pony.

    Look at that storage.

Re: Oh no, say it isn't so...

I too don't think the GTR is a one trick pony. I think its a supercar for the rest of us, dressed in a more civilized outfit so its easier to live with.. but the formula for "desirability" is not simple mathematics and on that scale the R8 is lightyears ahead...

    back on ttopic,

when all is said and done I dont think the new A4 is going to disappoint.. only thing I'd be worried about is the lack of a 2.0T Q 6 spd but if the demand is high enough maybe audi will decide to bring a few over...

I believe they are going to have 6spd and auto for the 2.0T q but only auto for the v6.

ROFL they are already expecting mark up on the GTR to almost double the price. GL with that.

GTR great car always was and always will be a skyline fan boy but the R8 is breath taking. GTR will be alot more once it hits the dealer. When the new Z06 came out they were selling for 100k+
