The stock plugs are the NGK PFR6Q. They retail for about $11ea.

If you are stock thru Stage 2, the stock ones will do the job since the OEM coilpacks are fairly powerful. I tried plain old copper plugs at a smaller gap on mine when I was stage 1 and it really didn't do anything for me at all. In fact, the smaller gap reduced throttle response a tad.

The stock gap is just fine with our coils.

When I moved to Stage 3 fueling and software, I changed to the Bosch Platin F5DP0R. ($16ea.) This is a very high performance platinum plug with a very thick center electrode compared to the plain old Bosch platinums that the parts stores sell. The F5DP0R is two heat ranges cooler than stock (stock would be a 7 instead of a 5). The reduction in heat range reduces cylinder pressure (increase in temperature = increase in pressure) and also draws more of the heat into the cylinder head for dissapation via the cooling system.

I just upgraded from Iridiums to the Bosch Platinum Side Fires. Much better, much smoother, and solved the intermittent ignition timing I was having. I am also running K04s @ 23psi...

Yeah I ran stock NGK PFR6Q in my 01 S4. Dealer put them in at 40k, and I changed them out at 80k. They still looked brand new, and it was chipped the entire time. Just picked up my 03 A6, with 39k, so I will be putting the same plugs in there very soon.
