what does this thing plug into?

i have a 2001.5 S4 with RS4 body conversion, i bought it this way, i noticed when putting an APR snub mount on and changing the oil this sensor was zip tied to the front middle behind the bumper and is not doing anything

any ideas what this goes to?

Looks like G17 outside air temp sensor. It should just sit there and read temp, doesn't plug into anything on that end.

Did you trace the other end? Would you mind posting a few pics of where the other end goes to? I've yet to get that fiogured out for myself.

now that you mention it I think I remember seeing the same thing on my A4 1.8Q back in the day

Yeah, it looks like the location of the Ambient air temp sensor. If so, it looks like part of it was cut off. It doesm't really clip into anything but it used to have a section that screwed into the power steering cooler hole directly to the right of it in the picture. That's my best guess from what I can see.

actually is is supposed to be held in place by the driver side shroud, but if it has upgraded ic's then the previous owner just ziptied it there, not a problem tho

If it's the temp sensor previously mentioned, mine mounted on a little plastic bracket. My bracket broke when removing the bumper, so mine's zip tied too.
