    Paint On Seats...HELP!!! (x post)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been painting houses for work and when I arrived home this evening I lifted up my lunch bag to reveal a 3" spot of white acrylic water-based exterior house paint right in the middle of my black leather passenger seat.

Jesus I'm really worried about this, is there any way to successfully remove the paint stain without damaging my leather??? Someone please help!

sorry for the cross post, but i'm starting to freak out a bit....

First I would try good ol soap and water and elbow grease.

I want to say try acetone...but that could cause some trouble!

dont use acetone and dont use rubbing alcohol. i tired using rubbing alcohol on a leather sofa once hoping that it would get permanent marker off and it slightly faded the color (thankfully the leather was tan so you couldnt notice the fading). im not sure what else to use. gove the soap and water a try.

I use a citrus-based product called De-Solv-It for all of my "uh-oh" accidents. I just checked the bottle, and it says that it may darken leather. Might not be a problem on black leather - definitely need to do a test on something else first. The citrus cleaners have always worked great for me.

umm please only respond if you know what you're talking about.

water based = not oil based, that is all. what happens when you try to put water on the side of your house, does the water based paint come off? come on, give me advice that actually makes sense. i'm looking for do's and don'ts with my leather here...

go to a paint shop and ask them for a cleaner I forgot the name. It takes off the paint right away without damaging the leather.

if you want paint off and its not that dry yet then any kind of oxy solvent will work

otherwise if its dry ... wait until it flakes?

Haha I really enjoyed this answer. Maybe it's cause I've been painting houses.

Seriously though everyone's just gunna give you advice that they "think" will help.

Either call somewhere that does interiors or upholstry or maybe a good detail shop and I would also try going to a reputable paint store, not a Home Depot where you're gunna get Joe Customer Service that doesn't really know what he's really talking about.

I've gotten acrylic paint on leather before. I just waited until it dried, and it pealed right off. Don't know if you'll have the same effect.
