    Honda Fit Versus S4 Avant

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I must be the first person to ever post that title. So a new commute and those darn gas prices made me pick up a Honda Fit as my commuter car.

Not mine, but looks just like this:

Thus, the Avant is up for sale. Really stinks, because it took me forever to find this car. At any rate, I'll keep an eye on this forum since the S4 Avant has and will always be my favorite car.

My avant is over on classifieds for sale. Thanks to those who have given me help when I needed it. Keep on trucking.

P.S. If you ever run into a Honda Fit and the dude has watery eyes as your S4 Avant passes by, its probably me

I just paid $4.50 a gallon for 93 in Manhasset. That might have been the smartest downgrade though.

    Even though it sucks.

Trying out the new ultra-economy thing with this commute. My thought is that it would be easy to change in a year if we hate it. There is something nice about an extended service contract for 60K miles which runs $275 (basically oil changes and thats all it needs)

It's our first Honda, so it is an experiment....

    +1.

I just downgraded myself to an A4 from a couple of Porsche 911s. My A4 is the first four cylinder I've owned in 15 years. I was worried about the step down but the A4 s-line is a decent car for what it is. The main differences between the S4 and the A4 are not-so-nice front seats, 320lbs lighter at the nose and a not-so-bad 250HP/300TQ (chipped). I get 25MPG city 35MPG hwy.

BTW, I'm paying ~$5.50/gal for Oct93 in Vancouver already.

The Fit is so damn cute I wanna eat it.

Sorry you had to sell the Avant... But the Fit isn't a bad car... Honestly, for a DD, I think you're quite smart for making that choice. Besides, those who think that their cars are a status symbol, or define who they are, are obviously compensating for something.

While not selling my Avant - or any of my other cars for that matter, I'm probably buying something similar as my "commuter" car. I only drive my Avant one day a week - if that. That way it'll last longer!

So my commute increased as well. This, along with gas prices made me pull the trigger. Honestly, even in my previous commute of 50 miles a day, gas prices we're weighing on my mind and making me not enjoy the car as much.

It wasn't a cost issue. I am happy to save some money, but could have kept on driving it. I just didn't think that driving 90 miles round trip each day would be the best move for this car in terms of upkeep and gas.

I looked at many many options and in the end just thought the Honda was the best move. Cars like the prius are just way overpriced right now and this car just as well as them with pretty good mileage. I checked out vehicles like the GTI, Rabbit, Volvo C30, Mazda 3 and Toyota Matrix. Felt the Fit was the best bang for my buck. Yes, it's a small bang...but also a small buck....

A co-worker has a 1.8T USP and I thought about this, but he only gets like 24 MPG's and claims to not have a heavy foot....

Big difference between 1.8 and 2.0 FSI in terms of performance and fuel consumption. 2.0 is more efficient and more powerful. The chip also increases fuel efficiency.

Technically, shouldn't that be the other way around? Saudi Arabia's point wasn't to get people to sell their cars, it was to sell gas. So, it should look like this:

Saudi Arabia: .3 (I suppose the Fit still uses gas)

What about a Toyota Yaris? I had one for a rental car and got 310 miles to the tank. Drives pretty well. That was driving up I-5 at 90mph. I did the same drive in a Prius and got 275 miles to the tank. Go figure. Things definitely need to change in our world but I hate to see someone become separated from their Audi.

Not really. KSA sells oil to the big oil companies, who then distill it into many types of oil products, one of them being petrol. Guess who's doing the markup? Oil companies or oil exporter?

We have the oil companies to thank for the markups, buddy :)

It's the Gas companies that are making a killing in the economy.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/01/bu...8b0&ei=5087%0A

By any measure, Exxon Mobil’s performance last year was a blowout.

The company reported Friday that it beat its own record for the highest profits ever recorded by any company, with net income rising 3 percent to $40.6 billion, thanks to surging oil prices. The company’s sales, more than $404 billion, exceeded the gross domestic product of 120 countries.

Only $4.50 per US gallon? I wish............in the UK, my RS4 drinks 99RON which costs almost £1.35 per litre, by my arithmetic this equates to $10 per US gallon!

I've been considering a Mazda 3 Series in about a year when my S4 is done being paid for. I've read lots of good things on the Mazda 3's, gas mileage is is high 20's low 30's highway, and a fun car to boot.

With gas prices its really difficult to have anything with a V8 as a DD.

I feel for you. I sold my Land Rover Discovery earlier this year and picked up a Honda Element SC.....and I couldn't be happier. The Disco had a ton of mods and was awesome offroad, but with kids, going off roading was harder and harder. Plus, the Disco killed me in maintanence and gas. The Element was used ( only 1900 miles) so I got the certified warranty of 100K or 7 years. Unbelieveable warranty, low cost of ownership, more reliable than a rover....and the car payment is less than what the rover cost me a month to gas up :)

I believe the Yaris only holds 11 gallons and the Prius about 12. I drove the hell out of both, and the Yaris definitely performed the best. The Prius needs to stay in a small town or city, not a fun car to drive at all. However, there is nothing like passing people on I-5 at 100mph in a Prius. I have not taken my S4 on on too many road trips yet, but cruising at 80mph at around 3K can not be as good the "econ" cars.

why not a volkswagen diesel? It will get better gas mileage than the fit. Sure, diesel is more expensive, but it won't outweigh the mileage gained. More torquey as well ;)

I did kind of the same thing not too long ago myself and bought a IS250 and promoted the S to garage queen status.

For a V6 - it gets about 28 mpg and 410 to the tank. I don't suppose that it's the biggest step down but the driving experience is boring as heck when compared to S4. +1 for seat cooler on hot days and touch screen GPS that is 10X better than RNSE.

With gas prices the way it is... I've been considering either getting a commuter car or letting go of the S4 as well. I'm averaging 16-17mpg, and those $70/tank hurts everytime I fill up...

The problem is, the V8 rumble and the Winter handling of the S4 makes it way to hard to part with. It puts a nice smile on my face every time I start up the car and start driving it.

One crazy thought lately: I saw a used Porsche Cayman (non-S) ~$40k. Supposedly, it gets close to 30mpg... so I've been thinking hard about that so I don't have to "downgrade".

The Fit serves its purpose, but I'm sure you'll miss the V8. GL with the sale of the Avant.

so the Honda Civic became the best selling car in America last month. It finally beat out the Ford F-150. I wonder why

btw, most of the Japanese commuter cars are on waiting lists.

I am about to do the same myself. Looked at the Fit S yesterday but could not decide if I should wait 2 months for the all new 09 instead. But I will still keep the S4 and S6 for now and trade my DD( 2000 TL ) for the Fit.

Once we get the Fit, it will be heavily mod over time. This little beast got some potential, looked at some of the Youtube videos and those Japanese are crazy with their Fit/Jazz. BTW, Fit is the number 1 selling car in Japan and won 07-08 Car of the year in Japan!

Good choice and Enjoy the savings.
