Window won't work. Making weird sound, HELP

Ok so of course shit goes wrong with my car now that I'm driving 1200 miles next weekend and don't have any damn money cause it's all going towards moving.

Well I go to get gas and roll down my window. It makes some weird clicking crunching sound as it goes down. First time it ever did that.

On the way home I go to roll it up. It clicks and crunches then stops going up and starts to go down.

I had to grab the glass with my hand and pull it up while pressing the button up.

It's up now and still "works" but it makes the crunching sound and something is wrong so I don't want to mess with it and make it worse.

I took the door apart but you can't see much.

So I need a new regulator or what and how much are they? Is it something I can do myself or do I have to take it in somewhere?

It sucks that I gotta make this drive now and can't open my window to pay tolls.

Wow that seems like a complete bitch to do.

How much would a shop charge me. I see the regulator is about $150, how much more would a shop charge for it installed?

Just guessing, but probably 2 hours labor. So somewhere around $200 plus parts.

Yea, guess I'll do it myself. I'm gunna my timing belt in a month guess I can do the window... I just hate taking the interior parts apart especially doors. I have all the tools and a beautiful 2 car garage at my new house. Guess I just gotta make the 1200 with use of my window, I'll try to pay tolls out the back window, haha.

Thanks for the PM, I never see when I get them on this board, I'm used to getting a pop up on other boards.

Re: Window won't work. Making weird sound, HELP

I'm assuming it's the Reg. I took the door panel off and played with it a little and that's definitely where the sound was coming from and when the window was up I could feel the cable in the track going to the blue reg center and it was real loose with lots of slack.

If I buy a new reg and replace it and it doesn't fix the problem I might just light car on fire.

My GTI the clips holding the glass onto the reg actually snapped but at least that was passanger side so I just propped it up and it didn't bother me much.

This might have pushed me over the age though. I might be trading this and my gf's Jetta in and saying good bye to German cars.

I've been wanting her to get a Maxima, they're fast, reliable and lots more room for the 2 kids.

We're moving to FL so I'm thinking of getting an S2000.

We'll see. I love my car but I hate the stupid expensive problems VW/Audi's have.
