Took the day to start a lil project. comments welcomed. Still not sure if Iam going to leave the S4 badging on.What do you guys think?

    Stock look.

    Debaged.

Painted.Used Plasti-dip. Like the finish, matches my front grills.

    Just the blacked out rings.

And now the S4 part. Took out the Red, left it the shiny silver.

All in all, it came out pretty good. The Plasti dip is super easy to use and coats all those hard to adhere to chrome/ plastic chrome pieces very well with a great finish.

    Re: Blacked out emblems.

looks great....i'd go get a piece of red sticker from your local sticker store and go to town with a razor blade. The all black S4 badge doesnt look that bad but with the red in the middle it would look amazing.

    Rings look great too!!!

Thanks..I Was trying to be a lil different so I pulled the red out oh and because I F*$ked it up.LOL...IF you notice its sliver/chrome where the red used to be.I didn't do it all black. here a better pic of when I was just placing the emblems on back with blue tape.
MOFSTEEL .As far as prep. Acetone, a clean rag and I painted light even layers until I liked what I saw.

I like the way it looks with the red left showing. Not a good comparison but close enough.

Also on the front, although it's a bit stealth.

YES. Goof off. turn emblem upside down, soak the sticky tape with Goof Off for 10-15 min and the old stuff comes right off with your finger. Cut strips of new 3m double sided tape and apply. This is NOT hard.Anyone can do it,unless your blind and have no hands.

Funny earhythmic, funny. As a matter of fact, I have an S4 badge on my bench. I got a box of various badges & all the rings for the GB yesterday from OEMpl.us. Vinyl is being sized & cut as I write, I should have it by midweek. So, the "S4" rear emblems are close... very close..

    Re: Blacked out emblems.

i did this to my B6, and i found reapplying the old logo was hard.

I went to the dealer, and bought some rings. used razor blade to cut around them (they came on a sheet) and then painted.

had a small OOOO piece of paper on the back to peel, and bam, OEM attachment. I could never get the 3m tape to sit as flush as the oem stuff on the trunk.

i didnt do much prep, just clean and plastidip.

    Re: Blacked out emblems.

    honestly i dont remember.

i made a thread about it a while back in teh B6 section.

i want to say emblem was 15$ ? it comes on a big rectangle backing. I just used an exacto knife and traced around the paper, so it looked like there was nothing on it. then painted, and attached.

    plastidip is liek 5$ anywhere...

Wow. And why not??? Thanks for saying mine came out looking like shit just because I didn't spend 80 bucks on a set of rings. And thanks for "hoping" they will hold up. Its Plasti-dip!!! Its supposed to hold up!!!! Heres how bad the front of my car looks after a couple months of washing, waxing and driving around the rock nicking streets of Colorado using the same treatment on my front grill/s.

I know, I know...looks sooo shitty just because it different from every other badge out there.

New badge, prep sanded, 3 stages (primer, color, & clear) of automotive paint & heat curing for durability vs. Plastic Dip. You tell me. Oh, and I use a professional spray booth. I'm not bagging on you, it's just the facts, and you asked the difference.

Yes, I understand what goes into painting.I know the "facts"and just dont have a proffesional spray booth at my disposal. I understand why yours rings cost $80+ bucks a pop and I did 4 sets of rings for $6 bucks with material left over.I'am sure your rings look Great....but I feel mine look damn near as good(different finish) and match exactly with all the other black pieces on the car(grills mostly). For some people your rings will be the better choice as some have no desire or have no Know-how to get the job done.Me, I've worked on every car I ever owned so.... To save the cash here on this project and keep my Coilover savings from being depleated any, this was the better choice for me and besides doing it yourself is very gratifying.

Thanks, I though about that....Still trying to decide. Keep just the S. Keep the both S and 4. Pull them both off and just leave the rings.Add red back to the S.

To the OP: how are the rings holding up for u? I'm thinking about buying a new set of rings and plasti-dip so I can do the same. Cheap and looks good! But I don't want to keep on repeating this process if it's gonna start wearing off, thats why I'm asking how there holding up. Thnaks

Wow, this thread brought back from the dead! Since then some things have changed but first I want to say....Plasi- Dip Holds up very very well.ITs been about a year now since I did the front grills and no peeling,again....... it holds up extreamly well! I did all the emblems in Plasti dip also but it leaves a flat finish and since the beggining of this thread I had my roof painted a deep shinny black and wanted my emblems to match this same finish and color.I do agree with AvantNoir that New badge, prep sanded, 3 stages (primer, color, & clear) of automotive paint & heat curing for durability vs. Plastic Dip is better quailty and I love the fact that the emblems match the roof. However its a cost issue, I had the emblems done for free when I did my roof so...... I f you want to Plasi-Dip don't be affraid, it looks good, really good! Not Pro Paint booth shiny good but for 6 bucks its hard to beat. For someone looking to mod now and cheap, it works very well. Here are a couple pics I just snapped today for this post. Heres how the front is holding up after a year.Rings are a bout 4 0r 5 months old. Hope this helps people decide which way is best for them. Honestly, I like the contrast between the flat Plasti-dip surround and the shiny emblems! P.S. What do you guys think about ditching the S4 emblems all together??? Still undecided but I kinda think it looks better in the back...just rings.

How did you get the red back on the rear badge?
