Cluster Swap?

I don't know if anyone's ever asked this before, but a friend of mine bought an A3 base model that has no Multi Function Display in it. Is it possible to add one easily or semi-easily in an A3? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

gauge clusters are pretty rare and new ones are upwards of $700.

a dealer may have to do the swap/coding because of the imobilizer and setting of the odometer.

The thing is, he's crazy enough to pay for it and we have VAGCom, so the coding won't be too much of an issue.
