    APR chip

I finally got myself the APR ecu chip about 2.5 weeks ago. I was driving home and loving the car so much more it was about a 240 mile drive. it was so exciting. What every one said about the upgrade is true and I wish I did the upgrade sooner. except

Half way into the trip I pulled over to take a leak and when I got back in, the car would not start. I was under CPO so the car got towed and worked on. the code they pulled said that the ecu was not getting enough power. so they thought is was a relay that was busted. That did not fix the problem, and frankly I was not going to help them. I was under warranty and wanted to keep it that way. Then they figured maybe the ECU is busted. They had to get one shipped from germany. took like 7 days to get it in. the chip was replaced and the car works fine now. It was in the shop for over 2.5 weeks. grrrr.

On friday I will get that chip reflashed cause I want that power back.

but have you guys ever heard of this happening with a flash?

BTW if you read my other thread. I got pulled over for speeding on the same day I got my car back :)

I'm willing to bet that they flashed the ECU with a bad checkum value. The car will start once or twice. Then after you shut it off again, it won't start. It just cranks and cranks.

I forgot the error code that you'd see but, once it sees that, it will not start. Even if you clear the code. You basically have to reflash the ECU at that point.

How can we avoid getting the flash with a bad check sum value? I'm gonna get my CPU flashed soon and I want to make sure everything goes perfect.

    Re: APR chip

typically, the person flashing the ecu would use a specific file for each specific ecu. If the file needs any adjustments, the file must be closed to result in a checksum the ecu expects. I would simply chalk this up to error on the installers part.

    Just get a GIAC instead

I switched over from the APR tune to a GIAC.

After having an APR tune for a time, I recently switched to a GIAC tune. Why? Just because and out of curiosity. Anyway, there are noticeable differences between the two programs.

    1. Turbo lag? What turbo lag? - Turbo lag is practically gone with the GIAC. I noticed a slight lag with the APR tune.

    2. High-end turbo kick comes in sooner at 65mph (GIAC) compared to 75mph (APR). I always thought his was odd. It's hard to explain but it's a mild turbo kick under gradual throttle. Do any of you experience this chip or no chip?

    3. Butt dyno thinks APR is a bit "torquier" than the GIAC.

    4. GIAC is smoother across the power spectrum as compared to the APR. I was surprised because many have said the opposite. A person from the other forum felt the same way about power being smoother.

Throttle response is identical. Although I liked APR's "torquier" feel in the low end, I have to give the edge to GIAC because of the better turbo response and smoothness. Both are great programs and this by no means is a bash to APR and the end-users.

Re-programming took about 1.3 hours. The ECU was being finicky and had to be removed to be separated from other systems to be re-flashed with updated 2.7t programming. Once that was done, the stuff left from APR had to be completely removed before the GIAC programming was installed. As a side note, the APR program creates a log of 35 accesses to the ECU which in my opinion is totally unnecessary. GIAC only logs one.

    Re: APR chip

I had Revo Technik first and it was great and super smooth, but I had some problems with getting support because my local Revo guys don't really have a place of their own. So you have to call a mobil number talk to the guy and make an appointment to get your car flashed, but that sucks when you have a problem because the calls don't get answered as readily. good torque and about 50 more HP.

I switched to GIAC and got the flash with EVOMS.com they are a very reputable mostly Porsche tuner and I felt like it gave me about 20% more powerthank the Revo flash. They claim gains of 65-80 HP to the crank, and so far no codes or other problems. I also got the tip chip and flash loader and that helps me put it back to stock when needed. Some peeps claim that GIAC will cook your turbos, but a year after I switched no issues...

    Re: APR chip

I was driving today, and tried to put the car on cruise control, now that wont work.

This is with the new unflashed chip from Germany.

    What a fukin hassle.

I have to bring the car in again. And I dont want to bring it to the same dealer cause its too far away so it will cost me another $54 for that.

Now I need to get a refund cause the 30 day garuantee will run out. Shit if they dont give me back my money I will cancel my credit card payments.

Have the dealer reflash with up to date programming. It should take less than 5 minutes.
