Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I hate to make a thread like this but, here it goes...

i've been an audi enthusiast for about 4 years, with my 2 B5 A4's. now looking into a b6 a4 avant. Im having trouble finding the differences between the models.

whats the differences between the 02-04's? excluding the ultrasport 04

bodies are the same, what about the interior do any offer bluetooth?

    Re: Model Differences...

For the '02 A4, the leatherette seats are perforated. The Winter package included heated rear seats. The engine included a rain tray (cowl cover) and side engine cover. It also had an interior motion detector for the alarm system. There's no instant off for the HVAC. The '02 can be programmed via VAG-COM to have the fog lights come on with the parking lights and not just the main headlights ('03+ requires rewiring).

For '03, seating surfaces were solid. The heated rear seats were removed. The covers around the engine (except for the ignition coils) were removed. The interior motion sensor was removed (if not in '03, definately in '04).

For '04, cars were prewired for satellite radio. The '04.5 came with factory painted lowers and a 6 speed manual for the 1.8T (both available for early '04 only w/ Ultrasport package). Rear brake rotors were increased by 10mm from 245mm to 255mm (for the 1.8T). Lighting package came with an "auto" switch to turn on/off lights when sensing outside light levels. Also had a "comming home" feature that would turn on fog lights and tail lights when you get out of the car (to help light up your path for safety).

For '05, cars got the new Aero wipers and factory bi-xenon (w/ lighting package).

Fit and finish along with reliability seem to be better starting with the '04 models. Any one can be equally reliable as long as it was maintained properly. Most recalls and TSBs (technical service bulletins) focused around the '02 and '03 models.

That's about all that comes to mind quickly.

    Re: Model Differences...

Sport suspension for the '02 is lower than the newer models, but not by much. Non-sport suspension remained the same across the model years. Artic/Polar white is hard to find with Ultrasport, but may be more common with a regular A4. Denim Blue was only offered in '02 and '03. One of the best shades of blue ever made.

    Re: Model Differences...

HomeLink was available only if you got the Premium package. The instrument cluster remained the same. Only small change was the CIS (central information screen). Some A4s randomly got a full color screen while others had the monochrome screen. I think all '05 models got the full color screen.

Bluetooth was not available for the B6 line. The B6 had a hardwire phone kit that allowed you to plug in a Motorola V60 and some other model to be used for hands free talking. The only way to get "factory" Bluetooth is to look into getting the Navigation Plus RNS-E system retrofitted (simply plug and play kits available). You can then add a Bluetooth module to the RNS-E for full use.

    Re: Model Differences...

Great info, Cyber. I have an '03 and was wondering why the motion sensor didn't seem to work. The switch is there, but it doesn't light up or do anything.

I bought mine used, and the features couldn't be worse for Florida - I got the "lite" Premium package and Cold Weather package. I have a carport so I don't need the Homelink. My ass stays plenty warm in the mild winters, so I don't need the heated seats, and unless I start water-skiing, I don't need that ski bag!
