Soon to be S4 Owner (Hopefully)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    hey everybody,
I have been lurking these forums for awhile now, and would like to say you all seem like cool dudes. I think I am going to purchase my first s4 in the upcoming weeks, and if not then by the end of summer for sure. Needless to say I am more than excited. I just figured I would formally introduce myself since I hope to be posting regularly soon not just lurking!

I will give details on the car if I get it (I dont want to claim something I don't own, nor risk somebody snagging it out from under me)

If I do get the car I will be looking to buy a used m-box ecu with either a giac or apr chip, but i want to keep the original for warrany purposes (continental). I will also do the supporting TBB and DV mods for now as well as a set of HR lowering springs. Thats my plan for the summer. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions as I get closer to purchasing and plenty more when I actually get it so thanks in advance.

    Andrew

Good luck with finding a great S4. If you have the extra cash and it looks like you are willing to wait, try to find a stage 3 car. That way someone bit the bullet on new turbos and the supporting hardware.

Re: Soon to be S4 Owner (Hopefully)

I am still in college and my parents who are helping pay for the car won't let me go stage 3, I wish I could.
The car I am looking at has a rebuilt title, which lowers the price significantly. My best friend rebuilds cars for a living and he is coming with me to check it out, however I have never known anybody to have bad luck with rebuilds. Regardless, I was very apprehensive at first, but when I read the carfax, there was never any frame damage and it was hit in the left rear. So nothing too significant, to this day it still doesn't have the 4 rings on the 5th door. After it was registered as a rebuilt it was repo'd and has been dormant for quite some time resulting in only 48k miles! I am putting my refundable deposit down tomorrow, then on Saturday I have an appt. with an Audi dealer for them to check it out and if that clears, I will drive it home sat.
I even checked the VIN with continental and they will warranty it despite its title.
I'm positive that I won't be sleeping the next couple of days, just browsing AZ/youtube for S4's.
I have negotiated the sale of an APR ecu already and will order a TBB and 710ns shortly after.

Here are some pics of the car on the lot.

The seats are just too much in that car.
Its funny, I used to love Nogaro before I had an S4 but now that I have one I like them less and less.
That being said I would LOVE an avant. I would even take a nogaro if it was an avant and the price was right.
    Good luck kiddo

Re: Soon to be S4 Owner (Hopefully)

I have a few questions in preperation for getting my car.

    1. Approx how long should I be able to drive around with the APR ECU on stock TBB and DVs? I know this question is rather unpredictable (I have searched) but I'm looking for a general estimate. By the time I order TBB and DV's it will be about a week after I but the ECU in. Will I be safe?

    2. Does anybody have any numbers like 0-60, quarter mile, etc for a APR 93 Stage 1 S4?

3.Are there any particular "sweet spots" for this car with the APR chip or just in general? By sweet spots I am refering to a certain RPM/Gear where the car performs especially well.

    4. I know its been covered extensively and if you feel like answering please, if you feel like flaming, please don't. But which upgraded TBB is the best value for a Stage 1 car that won't tear. A samco, a samco rep, and OEM "updated" TBB. Pleaes give me your opinions.

Thanks everybody to the warm welcome to the AZ community!

Re: Soon to be S4 Owner (Hopefully)

    1. I wouldn't take any risks.
    2. I'd guess low-mid 13s.
    3. You mean the most powerful in the powerband? Um, not sure on that one. Check dyno sheets.
    4. I've had the samco TBB for over 50k miles and its been great. Keep searching the forums bro, you'll do fine.

Congratulations on an awesome car, but, it SHOULD be owned by someone that'll stage 3 it! Nevertheless, have fun but BE CAREFUL with that car.

BTW: You don't have every package, you're missing the nav.

Re: Soon to be S4 Owner (Hopefully)

    Wow!

I just had a huge scare. I'll start the story from the beginning.
About 2 hours ago I was just about to walk out the door to go eat with some friends when I get a call from the dealership where the car is located. It's the manager calling, not the sales rep I had been negotiation with. He starts off the conversation with "Andrew, I have some bad news." So at this point I am like "shit, what can it be". He told me that the S4 I was looking at was a friend of the owner of the dealership actually the dealerships. The sales rep I had been dealing with had not confirmed that the price I had negotiated was ok with the owner. Earlier in the day the dealership informed the owner of the S4 that the car was being sold, and when the owner asked at what price he was outraged and came and picked up his car. When I was told this I immediately asked for the contact info of the owner of the car, they didn't have it, only the owner of the dealership did. I got a hold of the owner of the dealership (eventually) to get the owner of the S4's number so we could re-negotiate and appropriate price. After much going back and forth we ended up settling on a price that with taxes will be about $900 more than I had originally anticipated. It sucks, but regardless the price is still very good. For that hour or so when I thought that the owner had the car and I was never going to get it I was practically distraught, not to mention wondering was I was going to do with the $800 in parts I have already ordered. I am relieved that I can still pay the dealership, not the owner directly since I already have a certified check made out to them and I can pay the difference on credit card. It smelt/smells a little fishy but what choice do I have? I couldn't exactly call BS on everything and say they were scamming me because if I was wrong I would insult the owner, lose the car, and never have a chance of getting it, and if it was BS they obviously weren't going to sell for the price I had negotiated so I still wouldn't have got the car. In the long term I am still happy, I got a good price on the car and hopefully tomorrow is less stressful.

    Sorry for the long post.

That makes two of us, if I were reading this thread from a your point of view I would be the biggest skeptic/cynic posting.

I am getting the car checked by a certified Audi dealership/mechanic tomorrow and it doesn't check out then no deal whatsoever. I hope things work out.
