    Big Mistake

After numerous times of my girlfriend asking me to drive my car i finally gave in. What a mistake. We were on a hill waiting for a train to pass and this asshole in a lexus pulls up about 2 inches on my rear bumper. She got nervouse bc she didnt want to roll back into him so then she proceeded rev the car to 5k rpm and slowly let off the clutch. We pulled over a minute after and i could smell the clutch.. How bad is this?. Remind you I'm still on my original clutch with 87k miles on it! What does a blown clutch feel like?

    Re: Big Mistake

for as long as you've owned the car, have you ever done it before? I did it twice so far, and the clutch still feels fine (i have 87k as well). as long as you don't slip, and it engages smoothly, you should be fine.
    one last thing,
DONT LET PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE STICK IN AN S4 DRIVE STICK IN AN S4.. me and a select few other people have ever driven it. and i intend on keeping it that way

If she doesnt even know how to use the ebrake to prevent the roll back then she should remain in the passenger seat. I think I learned this on my first day of driving school.

    Re: Big Mistake

Yep I agree with everyone, should be fine. I also think that as long as you are not launching your audi or taking it to the strip, your clutch should last a long time. Mine has 88k on it and is strong as ever.

Also be easy on the girl friend. I'm sure she felt bad about it happening.

    Re: Big Mistake

    1. NEVER let your GF drive your car!
    2. 5k and than easing off your clutch will wear your clutch down A LOT! Start looking at clutches because chances are, this will happen again.
    3. NEVER let anyone other than you or a person you can TRULY trust with the car drive!
    4. NEVER let your GF drive your car!

Other than that, you should be fine.

Symptoms of "bad clutch": Weird spikes in low RPM range between 2200-3500 in almost every gear; noteably 3rd.

    Re: Big Mistake

I let my girlfriend drive mine pretty often actually. Your clutch is fine, doing that a couple times won't kill it instantly, its that over time that will do it.

I left my car for about 1.5 weeks with a friend while I move to South FL.
I also try to get my wife to drive the S4 and has done it 1 time.

I figure you have to learn some how and I'm not about to spend money on buying a junker for her to try it out. Besides, in case of emergency I want her to be able to drive it just in case.

Show her how to drive it. I real driver should be able to teach. My GF drives my S4 all the time and I encourage her to drive it hard. You have to learn some time right. After she started driving it harder she actually got into cars and we are now in the process of finding her a GTI that she can play with and build up.

    LoL! I'm one of them.

I figure understeering is when you under steer around a turn, causing you to go wide. Vice versa with the oversteering, turning into a turn too soon causing you cut into your turns more agressively. Personally, I try not to over correct what I'm doing...causes more stress.

I had a junker miata I taught my girlfriend on. She's still a little scared to try the S4, but she went from never touching a 5/6 spd to driving the miata up hills and home in about 45 minutes from getting into the drivers seat for the first time.

I don't normally drift. All I know is that when something happens in a turn that causes me to feel like I'm losing control...I do two things, release the gas and gently apply the brakes...everything else falls under instinct and luck

Should see what my girl does....back on topic...I've let my girl try and drive my S4 once. She couldn't get the car moving in first gear, even though I gave her specific instructions...she started freaking out when the car rolled backwards. LoL!

Told her, "put it in 1st. Ease the pedal until the needle gets close to 2500, and at the same time, gently ease off the clutch..." she revved it to something like 4500 and never eased off the clutch, allowing it to gently slide backwards to rest on a curb...LoL!

But at least she goes to car shows with me and likes reading all your funny posts. By the way, I think your clutch is fine. Its happened to me too and my baby is perfectly fine so far with 53K on it.

    Re: Big Mistake

I've taught quite a few females how to drive stick. Not on the S of course. I have a 91 Mazda 323 to teach them with. New clutch is 85 bucks. Hardest part is the take off, which is pretty easy once u teach them clutch point and moving off without gas. Luckily my girl has a 6 speed GTI, so she has no problem driving the S.

I'm at 84K on my stock clutch and its a total gonner. Then again, I've launched tons of times and glazed it more than a few when I first got the car a few years back because I didn't realize these cars don't like when you slip the clutch. Thats why I'm not looking at a VAST stage 3 on my living room floor.

And oh yeah, my gf knows how to drive stick. Thats why we're together.
