Just turn off the compressor when it gets to 15psi.

    something like this?
comes with a regulator and a seperate one indicating percent of leak, we use it when we check cyls when building the late model engines.
    or just buy a regulator?

    I already did.

And yes, that regulator will work fine if that's the route you want to take.

Re: Need help with intake tester for boost leaks.

That regulator looks good to me. My dad has a cheap air compressor that has a regulator so I just set it to 15-20 max, dont want too much pressure going into the car.

I'm surprised the compressor you have doesnt have a regulator. But that one you had posted from sears should work good.

is it possible that a compressor wouldnt be strong enough to pressure test?

Re: Need help with intake tester for boost leaks.

not really... I mean 15-20 PSI is usually the lowest a compressor will go. Some of them dont even go that low because if you buy a compressor for air tools you aint gettin that thing moving with under 90-100 PSI lol. like my uncle had a fairly big one, nothing crazy, but it was hard for us to get 15 PSI through it. we turned the dial ALL the way down and it was making about 12-13 on its lowest..... i had bought one from home depot that worked nicely until it broke 2 days later, i would of replaced it but i needed the 100. it was husky. perfect for pressure testing PERFECT

Re: Need help with intake tester for boost leaks.

unless youre using like those portable bike tire compressors those wouldnt hold the pressure probably for too long but not a normal sized one 10-20 is real low

i know exactly what youre talking about, it looks like this

go to home depot its a few bucks it screws on the end of your compressors hose then you pull back on it and attach it to the tester

It's a standard quick disconnect for air tools. I just pressure tested with my "mobile" tester a few minutes ago:

Portable air tank filled with tire pump compressor.

    Quick disconnect at intake tester

    Capped off breather

Bottle of soapy water sprayed on hoses

exactly.. its a universal fitting. like when i used my uncles big shop compressor he actually already had it since it comes with some of the more expensive compressors. just go to homey depot they'll take your money and help for sure
