Is it possible for a blown turbo to leak oil on the outside? I have oil seeping on the hose under drivers side turbo, and cannot locate the source. hoping its a valve cover gasket...

    thanks in advance

There are a few drops of oil on the underside of the waste-gate actuator too...

well is your car smoking like a military spec smoke bomb out of the tailpipes? are you not boosting at all? do your turbos sound like a thousand screaming babies being punched?

    Re: Blown turbo?

My car spat smoke out the tailpipe... Like fog machine smoking bad... And the turbos sounded like a dentist drill. You have a mediocre oil leak. Wipe everything off that you think the area is from. Then drive it and look for where it's at.

    Re: Blown turbo?

could it be an oil line not connected properly? or cracked/leaking? if it's not a 2001.5 (when they redesigned the oil lines), could it be possible that the older style broke? even possible if it is a 01.5 that they broke

ya thats my guess, maybe cam seal leaking. Try taking a look behind the driver side head and figure out if you see any oil residue where the blck round cap is on the head. that area is right above the turboo

    Re: Blown turbo?

I had an audi mechanic tell me that audi's are notorious for leaking oil. I doubt it means the turbo's are bad like everyone is saying.

Mine has a little of an oil burning smell right now too, not sure where its coming from so hopefully sometime this summer I can investigate.

    Re: Blown turbo?

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll try to clean up the area, take off the coolant reservoir and see if can find anything "freshly" seeping...

I have oil leaking from the black round cap on the driver side. How do you remove the cap? Will a cap replacement be sufficient to stop the leak?

It's the head cap at the back of the motor.

Actually, it has never been proven that they redesigned the oil lines.
